Westchester Sports Car Club is having a Time/Speed/Distance rally on 8/3. Its in Rockland starting at the Palisades Center Mall in Nyack. Its a day rally (starts at noon) on a Sunday. Its from 1 to 3 hours long (cant even hint at the actual time) and ends at a bar in a seafood restaurant where everybody hangs out and basically *****es about how bad they did. A TSD Rally is a time speed distance rally. You get a sheet of wacky instructions and drive around on public streets at a set speed limit. As soon as you make a wrong turn or get caught at a light, you have to backtrack and then make up the time with speed. There are also signs on the side of the road you need to mark down, so the people who drive like maniacs will miss them and lose points. Trophys are given out based on how close to came into the finish to the time you "should" have arrived at and how many signs you missed. Each car has to have a driver and a navigator (to read the directions), extra people get a points reductions (a third set of eyes helps A LOT).

Its $20 per car. You can drive easy and calm and do it for fun, or you can bring calculators and go "all out" to make up time and try for a trophy. Its a good way to get your chick involved in a car-related event, too.

Here is the website for the event:

TSDs are a blast. I usually end up doing really stupid things when I run the "seat of the pants" class (no equipment) such as passing 4 gravel trucks at 70mph on a slow right hand sweeper over a double yellow line in a 25mph school zone because I think I have to catch up.
