View Full Version : "The DRIVE" to BimmerFest East Aug 31st
Yellowmann

IM going to be organizing the PA caravan to Bimmerfest East. When you register please put in the notes area that your on the PA caravan with Yellowmann. That way they can tell how many PA representative we will have. Also post it here so I know.
http://www.bimmerfesteast.com/
This is the plan:
Roll out the day before (August 30th).
To have everyone meet in Harrisburg (central PA). So Pittsburgh people and everyone who is close can make this their first stop.
Then we will drive to Allentown for our next stop. That way Philadelphia and surround area can meet up.
Then we can work our way up to pick up more people.
This is only suggestion for now and depending on where we have the most people, we can make that area a stop if its on the way.
Please post here if you would like to join the caravan and any suggestions you have. This is only the planning stage so things will change. I will have more detail information later... so keep posted.
Hope everyone will make it to this big event.

$30 Show = yes to put your car in for competition, which will pay for you to get in and 1 guest and your ride.
$15 Spectator = per person to go in to watch all the show cars.
Hope that helps.

Ok I think if we have the exact route you guys are going to drive will determine how many people will show. Like route the highway your going to be going on. I suggest from PA to NJ to NY then to CT with stops each place. MD people can hook up in Phili, Pittsburgh peeps can meet up in Harrisburgh, Harrisburg peeps can meet in Phili also then roll towards 78 East to 287/87 north and catch peeps from NJ. We can meet in Mahwah or even at a rest area off of 287/87. Then go 87 North to 84 East and catch the NY peeps in Newburgh. From 84 catch Taconic state Parkway to CT to Route 44 to 41 then to 112 into Lime Rock I know the route from 84 so I can meet up with you guys and roll ya into Lime Rock..

MD peeps should come up to Allentown, pointless for Hburg and Pitt people to go all the way south to philly, just to come back up
then 78-287, and the rest of the way like u said
i could orchestrate a meeting place in the Allentown/Bethlehem/Easton area that would be easiest for everyone to meet, if people wanna meet here.

Ok this is what I was waiting to hear. I agree we should make stops on the way and who every is closes to that stop we will pick up. Its like few mini meet on the way to Bimmer Fest East....:D Can't wait..... I got few people at the Harrisburg Meet. So anyone passing through just post here. Next stop for us will be Allentown then like Allen said we can meet at that rest area in NJ or something. Then head up to NY then CT.

Well Hburg and Pitt people can meet off 78 near Phillipsburgh with the main caravan, its basically the border of PA and NJ. But if this is going to work everyone has to work together and have everybody at the right time they are going to meet. So were going to have individuals in charge of each location to meet the main Caravan. I can meet everyone in NY and CT. I'll get a location which everyone can easily get to. So I'll take charge of the NY leg and then to CT and if someone want to help the more the merrier.
So this is what we have.
1. PA (Yellowmann) Harrisburgh/Allentown
2. NJ ?????????? Who wants to do NJ????????
3. NY/CT will be me (Alex aka. Ausfahrt) Newburgh mall off of 84/87
This does not mean only one location we can have two locations for each state.

So whos' going to take NJ? Oh hey it's also a good idea to have a Walkie Talkie so people can communicate during the caravann so no one gets lost or get left behind. We'll have phones also but its' faster and easier to talk to EVERYONE on a Walkie Talkie rather then dialing each peoples phone number. Try to get the Walkie Talkie's with sub channels so no one can interfer with our conversation.

I may take NJ... have to check the planz first

Great B take NJ im sure there are lots from NJ to make this a huge caravan.
Im still working on Hotel information for the night before the big show. Not really familar with CT where is a save place to park our ride. If they have parking garages at hotel that would be sweet.
Anyone from CT to help out????

Thanks, If everyone was wondering I did not get the whole route especially from Pittsburgh through Harrisburgh. If you need direction from those area's let me know (which I doubt you'll need). But from Pittsburgh it's Pennsylvania TPK Rt. 76 to Rt 81 to Rt. 78 to Allentown. But get with the PA rep which is Yellowmann he can give you details on the PA Route. Oh and if you register for the show make sure you put down your in Yellowmann's Caravan.
**Make sure you register your vehicle everyone. I registered my vehicle and it's a WAGON :pimpin: and I dont even have ICE so dont worry people. I dont care if I dont win I just want to have a good time there with fellow enthusiats.**

MD, DC and VA people who are joining the caravan!!! i dont know if it would be more convenient for some to join up in Harrisburg, and for some to join up in Allentown, but the Allentown mini-meet will be at 1pm on the 30th, and we will roll out with the whole caravan at 2pm sharp.

If you get show ticket for $30 that will include you and a guest and your ride... so sign up now and put your with Yellowmann's Caravan.
Once we determine the officals stops for NJ and NY we are set. Those who are joining this caravan can decide which stop is closer for them. Just think of this as few mini meet before the big BFE show.

I THINK its like an hour or so from Hartford
The area in and around Lime Rock is EXTREMELY SAFE.
It is pure country up there and although I am not aware of any indoor parking lots for the local hotels, there isn't any need to worry.
Lime Rock is famous for the race track and thousands have brought priceless vehicles to the area without incident (at least off the track, can't say much about what happens during racing, though ;) ).

HI there, this is what I wanted to hear more people joining in the caravan. I know few people down in MD/DC/VA that will be going so they can join you too. I am developing a PHP website where you will enter your real name, your online alias, select which representative you are traveling with (this coorelates to the location you meet), and you cell phone # entry. This will then be compiled into a master list so that we know how many people to expect. We also worked on a preliminary guideline as to "driving rules" or "courtesy" rules so that we can have a fun and incident free travel!

Urine ..page you made was nice...it really will help keep things organized. It might also be a good idea for all to meet at their pickup spot around 1/2 hour before meeting up with the caravan. For the MD/VA/DC people this area probably wont have to be that big, but as we go north make sure the meeting spots can handle 100+ cars. Can someone send me directions? Im thinking people in my group can meet somewhere off 695...anyone have any ideas? It also would be pretty cool to come up with a hotel everyone is staying at...group rates and it keeps us all together. These are just a few of things ive been thinking of. We also have to remember that running as deep as i think...this ride might take alot longer than expected especially if we keep lane changes to a minimum. It also would be helpful for someone to post the correct type of radio to bring. We will more than likely draw and extremly large amount of attention.....I dont know about you but road blocks suck....and dont think they wont do it...its happened to me before.

There will be rest stops no doubt. As we begin to see how many people are interested in the caravan, we will be able to pinpoint good rest stop places.

urinemachine...hehe funny you'd mention rest stops
but yeah, i've driven to harrisburg on one stop before...i was just kinda trying to find official stops. i figured we'd stop occasionally for breaks and such.

You dont want to go through the way I circled it's too much traffic that way you would lose a lot of people. That is way too close to the city. That's why we have reps for each area, to keep the caravan going the right direction and trying to avoid congestion so nobody will get left behind. If you look at the the previous post that I posted it will show you the way from 78 to 287/87 to 84. Also if you registered you can see the route that is planned from NY to CT.
CtrlAltDel
06-24-2003, 11:22 PM
im all about putting together a route like that with the right directions so everyone can have a printout, and yeah area reps are cool and we'd follow, but i know i'd feel better going in knowing the way to go.
i'll try and compile a better map with some of the instructions some people posted.

CtrlAltDel -- definately take Rt. 80 across PA - do not use the TPK. I make the trip from NJ to Cleveland 2 or 3 times a year. Central NJ to Cleveland door to door is 7 hours with a gas stop...
CtrlAltDel
06-24-2003, 11:35 PM
i know that 80 is faster, but if i'm to catch the caravan at all i need to take 76, yeah it adds an hour, but i'm all about riding out with you guys.

I've made that trip across 76 up to Cleveland from the DC area countless times and it is a mess. You will definitely lose people since there is construction most of the way and you have the trucks mandatory in the left lane with all the slow people in the right lane. It is frustrating. I took the maden voyage in my new 325Ci a couple weekends back and was so frustrated that for 175 miles I couldn't open it up at all. I will keep my eyes open for you guys that weekend though, as we're gonna be driving on 76 to Cleveland that weekend as well....

Yeah, join us. We are going to drive the day before the event. The drive is going to go all the way to CT and we are reserving rooms at a hotel to party then go to hooters if people are up to it at Berlin TPK. Jaws will drop once all the ricers see BMW's rolling deep at the Pike.

If you guys are definitely going to the pike for a pre-meet, let us know. We can add to the turnout!

very nice to see we are getting so <b>spy tech like</b> with all the arial pics and all...
I've noticed that we have couple of maps floating around showing the different routes from where you guys stay to Lime Rock Park. Before someone would sketch out another proposal I just wanted you to remember that while looking at the map 'shorter' does not always mean 'better'. At this point I would leave it up to the 'committee'. I believe the two alternatives were:
a) get on 20, 219, then to 44, and 7
b) from Hartford onto 44 and 7
One thing to keep in mind is that there is a significant number of cars involved and people/cars might get lost/separated on those back roads. If we would drive down to Hartford (considering it would only be 7:00AM - no traffic) we could get onto Rt. 44 and just keep going straight until we get to Rt.7. Driving down to Hartford would take another 6min which could easily be lost on those back roads.
For those of you that didn't have a chance to see my other note, I'm trying to block off significant part of Hooters' parking lot with some yellow tape, so this way we won't get other cars to circulate around our rides. I've spoke to the manager last night and we've designated an area that should accommodate 30+ cars.
Any questions, let me know…
Regards,
Marcin
Side Note:
My last comment goes against some comment that have been made that pretty much generalize the attitude people (or other drivers) have towards BMW owners or our cars in general. I've lived in the area for quite some time, have attended many small or bigger BMW (and other) meets and have never even heard of any incidents, that's why I would hesitate on calling others 'haters'. We do drive cars that do draw attention and there is always certain amount of risk associated… but again, this is only my personal opinion.

**attn: Those Registered For Bimmerfest East 2003**
Due to some logistical snafus, we were unable to secure printed tickets in time for us to mail them out to you.
So, in order to save everyone the trouble of the possibility of not receiving them before the event, we will be checking in registered vehicles at the Outfield Gate off Route 112.
This applies for those who have pre-purchased tickets as well.
Please bring proper identification so that we can make sure you are who you are.
The red circle indicates the Outfield Gate. Please click here for MAP since I can't attach here :( (http://www.bimmervibe.com/phorum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1839)
"The DRIVE" will be rolling in at that gate, all 40 plus cars. Its going to be

should not be a problem :D when ur rolling in with 60 other bimmers, they should get the idea. worst that could happen is you will be scheduled to show your car at a different location than the rest of the drive members, (if u are signed up to show that is).
