Sorry to hijack the thread but I think this is similar...

I want to built a box in the spare tire well too, but I'm gonna take out the spare tire so I have the whole space for the box. Anyone know whats the diameter of the tire well opening? Would 15" Brahma fits in there?

And I heard from people that putting a sub in the tire well firing directly upward is worse than putting the sub firing to the back of the car, is this true?

Thanks...

Just measure your trie well. I think a 15" should fit in there considering the spare is at least 16".
Yes putting a sub firing upward isnt as good as having it fire towards/away from the cabin... but at least you can keep your trunk.

Now does anyone else know any way to get a sub in there and KEEP the spare? thanks

Since the spare tire is mounted upside down, all you have to do is remove the threaded post and fiberglass the opening of the tire and build up from there. This way you retain the spare, and have your enclosure in the middle of the tire itself. I'd attach this enclosure to a 3/4" piece of MDF that's large enough to house you sub, and build a false floor over that. This way, all you have to do is pop up the floor and remove your enclosure from the tire without big headaches.

Here's one we did in an M3 (of course there is no spare there to begin with, but there is even less room in here to build an enclosure):

Oh, also, if you build the enclosure properly, you will get great sound from an upward firing sub.

I'd use the preamp signal from the factory headunit which you can catch at the factory amp in the trunk on the driver side behind the carpeting.

WARNING, OFF TOPIC!

Hey MITE46, Are your 5 used wheels still available? I'm in Boston as well and can pick up.
Will they fit a 2001 330Ci with sport?

Sorry, I couldn't PM you and your original post was from last week.

Thanks!
