I am looking to upgrade my front components to a/d/s speakers, either the 235is (2 series 5 1/4" component) or 345is (3 series 5 1/4" component). I have a E46 Ci Convertible and know the speakers will actually fit, however unsure if the cross overs will fit the door. Can anyone confirm if they will or will not fit inside the doors? Has anyone fitted these crossovers in the door of a Ci and have pictures?

Also, can anyone recommend somewhere to buy these that can ship to the UK at a good price????

Regards

Good question- you may have a shot with the a/d/s/'s as they're not too big- still, I personally think your best bet is to trunk mount the x-overs next to the stock amp and run factory wire directly to them- the factory wire is actually pretty decent, and not worth removing- let me know if you're interested, I can get you good deals on anything- pm me

Another reason not to mount the xvers in the doors is moisture (which damage electronics components/circuit traces), and vibration (since doors get slammed so many times, over time components and solder connections become loose).

Do it iether inside on the kick panel/under dash area, or even easier as scud recommended.

Slight problem.. I do not have the HK or other upgraded sound so I do not have any amps in the trunk.

I already have an Alpine Head Unit, a DLS Amp in the Trunk and a set of DLS components in the front doors, with the cross overs already there in the doors. All I want to do is upgrade these to the a/d/s which do sound smoother.. well they did in the shop anyway... Unsure if there is enough space behind the glovebox to mount the cross overs... is there?? and then the routing of the speaker wires is not that easy is it?? especially to get it into the doors...

Tesh, you should have no problem mounting the x-overs behind the door panel. Mine are mounted there with silicone. The silicone holds well and keeps them from ratting, plus stays somewhat flexible, helping absorb some of the vibrations. I wouldnt actually mount the x-overs in the door, like where the glass is, or you may have mosture problems.
On the bottom of the door, in the corner closest to the trunk, there is a preety large "pocket", or space, that fits a crossover perfectly.

Dan,

What speakers / cross overs do you have installed. Do you have any pictures??

Also, what are the Dimensions of your cross overs?

Thanks in advance.

I have JL Audio 5.25 inch components. The crossover is about 4x6 inches. Sorry, no pictures.
