View Full Version : Teamdfl garage upgrade day:

The teamdfl garage was open for business today. HUGE thanks to Ed for hosting our mini tech fest today, and for providing the knowledge and skill for a successful day of upgrades and maintenance.
A bright, if not 'hazy' addition to the festivities today was the ellusive B and the steel grey beast. He has photos, and once he's over his munchies, maybe he'll post them here.
After a quick garage organization and clean up detail, we got started.
B changed his oil, then sorted, organized, alphabetized, and stored Ed's many tools.
Then the team descended on my car. We installed UUC Swaybarians (with the upgraded endlinks and bushings), changed the oil/filter and transmission fluid.
The bad news: Ed noticed some 'issues' with my transmission (small leak at one of the seals, I'm sure he'll ellaborate), as well as my control arm bushings - they are essentially non-existant. There's a photo on B's camera. Additionally, my ball joints and rotors are ready for replacement, and I finally got to see what I've been feeling for months - a bend in the right front rim big enough for Brent to crawl through. These are my stock 16" winter wheels, so I'm not terribly upset...
Again, big big big thanks to Ed, Brent, and my friend Chris (now an unnoficial teamdfl member) for all the help.
Post some photos, Brent!

I make it sound like it's all formal and sh!t...
It was actually a few guys in someone's garage... A couple years ago, some of the fanatics started having 'brakefest'(s) - a get together where they helped each other work on their cars. Ed (teamdfl) hosted the last one (my first) at his office's parking lot. There'll usually be a more obvious announcement for a larger event. They're a lot of fun - and educational.

Wow I wish the Bay Area/NorCal group did this...I could use some help changing my oil and making sure my suspension is up to snuff

This was the first event in my new garage so I wanted to keep the crowd small. B spent more time organizing my sockets and wrenches than he did working on his own car. I plan on having a larger 'fest in about a month. Annoucements on the forum will follow. Anyone interested in swapping a diff?

I will elaborate on the issues we found on Alken's car.
1. The transmission output seal appears to be leaking. There was trans fluis on the back and underside of the tranmsission case. The shifter selector shaft seal may also be leaking. Neither of these problems are serious and can be fixed later. The leak/s are very minor.
2. The flex disk (a.k.a. guibo, the rubber disk that connects the driveshaft to the trans ) has minor cracks. Again, the problem is minor and can wait a while.
Both 1 and 2 are easily handled if the transmission has to come out later for a clutch job.
3. The front control arm bushings are completely shot.
4. The outer ball joints in the front control arms have some play in the joint body, not the ball joint itself.
We are probably going to fix 3 and 4 at the next DFL Fest.
5. A front wheel had a big bend in the inner lip. Alken is going to have to do some shopping on the classifieds board.

Sorry I missed this one guys! I was down in Atlantic City getting robbed of all my money.
B, put down the bowl and post some pics!
I need to get in on the next one. Keep us updated, Ed.
And Ken, I've got one 16" lying around if you need it.

I just picked up a diff, was wondering if anyone wanted to help install it. I think I'm going to do it either this sunday or next week sometime.
I think the only question I'll have is how to change the oil in the diff. My friend said that I'll need a special pump or something.

Anyone know of a place I can get my ACS Springs installed? Some places want to charge me over $300 for the install!! I got the springs for $150... that much for an installation sounds retarded to me! Any ideas/help/advice/etc
