View Full Version : Westchester Spring BBQ

Alright everyone, after much talk of a spring meet, I felt it was high time to work out the details.
The Westchester spring meet will be held on May 15th, starting at 3:00 PM. The rain date will be May 16th. Stay tuned for any adjustments to the time or date due to weather as we get closer.
The location is the river side park in Dobbs Ferry, NY. I'm pretty sure there are no regulations regarding park usage, but I do have an old ID saying I am a Dobbs Ferry resident (I used to live there) if anyone questions it.
The park is big and georgeous, with benches and BBQs provided to park goers. It has a nice long parking lot on one side and on the other side is the scenic Hudson River, which will provide a great backdrop for pictures.
There will be a small charge for food and soda which should be between $5-$10. I'll get you guys a more accurate idea of the cost when we get an idea of how many people will be coming, but it won't be very expensive.
Here's a few pictures I snapped with my media player camera since I was an idiot and left my real camera at home. Sorry for the poor quality. These should give you all an idea of the location.
If you plan on coming, just drop a note in this thread saying so. Also note the number of people you will be bringing, if any.
Alcohol is illegal in the park, so don't even think about it. We can all head someplace afterwards if you guys want.
I'll post directions in a little bit.
See you guys in 3 weeks!

Hmm. I don't think it will be interior or ice. Your exterior is pretty much done too. You just got new wheels.. and you have coilovers.
You're selling your intakes, so I would guess it's either gonna be a GruppeM or a supercharger.. or maybe an exhaust.
Guess we'll have to wait and see. :)

Thats even a better idea, so it will not interfer with the aftermarket exhaust comparsion meet on May 16th.

BBQ Update:
Alright people! Here's an update of what's going on. First of all, directions. I'm going to provide you with a mapquest link to High Street in Dobbs Ferry. Plug in your address and it will give you directions to there. Once on High Street, take it all the way to the end, down by the water. You'll go around a sharp, downhill curve to the left. You'll pass a restaurant on your right as you go around the curve. Follow the curve into the train station parking lot. Drive all the way to the end and go around the U-turn, then come back on the other side. The park will now be on your right hand side. Park next to all the other BMWs.
Mapquest Directions (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&formtype=search&countryid=250&addtohistory=&country=US&address=High+Street&city=Dobbs+Ferry&state=NY&zipcode=10522&historyid=&submit=Get+Map)

So we're looking at ~15 people, give or take a couple, with about the same number of cars. This is looking like it's going to be a good sized meet. Everyone bring your cameras!
Okay, the final concern is food. I'll stop by Sams club and check out the prices of food, and then figure out a number. Shouldn't be too much.. I'm assuming under $10 a person. Just bring that with you when you come. You don't pay, you don't eat. :P
I was gonna pick up some dogs and burgers, soda and some bags of chips, cheese doodles, pretzels, etc. If anyone needs something different, let me know ahead of time or feel free to bring your own food too.
There's been a lot of rain lately so hopefully well have a nice, sunny day to do this. See you guys on the 23rd!

Okay, you all seem to want to divy up the food and after much though, it's probably a much better idea.
Here's what I'm thinking we need:
Charcoal
Lighter fluid & matches
~20 burgers & buns
~20 hotdogs & buns
~4 huge bags of chips
~10 bottles of soda
Pasta / Potato salad
Paper plates
Plastic cups
Plastic forks
Napkins
Garbage bags
I'll step up and offer to bring the charcoal, lighter fluid and matches. My girlfriend has also graciously offered to dontate the garbage bags and pasta salad. If you're sure you're coming, claim what you're gonna bring. I also have some BBQ cooking untensils I can bring.

I just called up the Dobbs Ferry park department and asked them about park usage. They said as long as one person is a resident (that would be me... technically) it shouldn't be a problem.
Their only real concern was parking since technically it's all permit parking, but the guy at the rec department said that since it will be on a Sunday, he doubts people will be that anal about it.
He did mention it may be hard to find a BBQ, but considering we're going later in the day, it should be okay. I'll bring my little mini grill just in case. If anyone wants to bring their grills, feel free.
I think the biggest thing will be as long as we stick to the parking spaces laid out and don't park like asses, we'll be fine.
See you all then.

I'll take care of some of the Soda.. :spit: , plastic cups, and the weiners..... :lmao: ....I mean hot dogs. I'll bring a few bottles or 12-pack cases of soda but I don't think I can bring all of our drinks so someone else bring can bring some. I'll also try and get some chips too if need be.
And Kev, if you need any help with any of this even before the 23rd let me know, I got your back!

Sandro, wanna help me go food shopping on the 22nd? We'll go to Sams club and get everything we need. We'll split the cost 50/50 and then have people pay us back when they show up to eat. Sound fair?

I think we'll be okay. Right now the forecast for Sunday is scattered thunderstorms in the morning and clear by night. I think at worst we might catch the tail end of a drizzle.
It's too early to tell. We'll make the call closer to the end of the week.

Right now the current weather forecast is saying 30% chance of showers Saturday morning and partly cloudy Saturday afternoon. 30% chance of thunderstorms all day Sunday.
From the looks of things right now, we're probably going to be moving this shindig to Saturday (our alt. rain date).
Stay tuned for updates.

Well, after hearing peoples' feedback and looking at the weather report again, it doesn't seem like there's any point of moving it to Saturday.
Right now we have two choices:
We can go ahead as planned and risk the chance of a thunderstorm, or we can push it back one week.
Everyone tell me your thoughts.

If the weather will be that bad on Sunday, I don't see why pushing it back to next Sunday would be a bad idea. Thats just me, still hopeful that THIS Sunday will be good weather-wise and everything like planned will go smoothly. I think we'll only know for sure tomorrow or Saturday if there will be rain or not.

I checked out the park yesterday and it was pretty busy. On top of that, there is a 10 mph posted speed limit in the parking lot that the dobbs ferry PD was enforcing.
When you come into the parking lot for the park try not to go too fast or make too much noise.
See you all this afternoon!

Can Someone Give Me Directions From Westport, I Know How To Get To The Westchester Mall. How Do I Get There Form There. I Really Want To Go.
From the Westchester mall, get onto 287 west. At the end, 287 will merge with 87 and the highway splits. Stay to the right. This will put you on 87 south. Stay in the right hand lane and take your first exit onto the Saw Mill River Parkway going South. Shoot down the Saw Mill to exit 17. Exit 17 will put you on Ashford Ave. Just keep going straight for a while. Eventually you will pass the town swimming pool on your right and then you will go down a hill. At the bottom of the hill you will see a supermarket on your left and a car repair/auto body place called "Performance" on your right. It's a white building. The road continues uphill after this intersection, and main street breaks off to the right. Turn right onto main street and go as far as you can until you hit the dead end. Make your last left before the dead end. Continue down this road until you see a "Do Not Enter" on your right. Continue following the road uphill, and make your first right. This road will go downhill and curve to the left and eventually enter the train station parking lot. Drive to the end of the lot, go through the U-turn and come down the other side. You should see all our cars at that point.
It may just be easier to use the mapquest link I provided. ;)

I'm seriously thinking about holding the next meet here in Greenwich at Todd's Point. As some may know this town is really snobby about it's parks and beaches but I think I can get a permit for like $50 or something to rent the clambake area. We would have ton's of parking, beach, grills and no crowds... I'll look into it a little more but I want to be positive that there will be a big turnout. Greenwich is the first town over the NY line in CT, about 25 minutes from NYC if you drive like my mother... lol Let me know what you all think...
