Hi all,
Great forum you guys have here. Very informative and helpful.
I recently purchased an 2001 330ci and have been considering forced induction. From what I've seen in this forum, most people favor ASA over all other supercharger kit manufacturers. I've also heard that Active Autowerke produces a kit for my car.
Now, from what I've researched, the ASA kit costs less and seems to produce more power. This sounds great, but apparently the ASA system does not include a software upgrade and instead uses a "piggyback" type system.
The Active Autowerke kit costs more and is rated lower in horsepower, but includes a software upgrade. I know I would have to send them my computer for this, but this doesn't seem like a major problem.
My question is, isn't the software upgrade the thing that makes or breaks the functionality of an aftermarket supercharger kit? Wouldn't I be risking damage to my engine by running a piggyback system? What made you guys choose your kits, whether they are Active Autowerke or ASA? Any help you guys can offer would be great. I've got some money burning a hole in my pocket and I need to make this beautiful car faster! :)

Software will hopefully be out soon for the ASA.....Anywayz.. its seems to be running fine for everyone without it.

I put 10,000 miles on my car since the ASA supercharger install and I dont have any problems.
I think AA has software because it uses larger injectors.
Anyway, you want the ASA kit and hopefully RennSport will have the software available real soon.
You think the ASA kit is far superior now? Just wait until the software and larger injecotrs are available.
Dont make a mistake, go with ASA you wont be sorry.

Do both these kits have intercoolers?

yes they both have intercoolers...the only real differences between the kits are that the AA has larger injectors and software and an oil cooler just for the supercharger...which helps keep temps down...but i'd still go for the ASA it makes more power now and when the software comes out it's only gonna get better.

Thanks for the responses, guys. Another question for you all...
Does anyone have a dyno sheet for their ASA kit? I went to Active's website and they have dyno sheets for all their cars, but I couldn't find any on RennSport's website. I just want to make sure that I'm getting what I pay for, you know?
The fact that Active has dyno sheets readily available is quite impressive...

What you dont trust me?
I made 298 rwhp on my last dyno.

Those look like nice numbers! Are you running custom software, or just the ASA Tronic? How's the drivability of your car?

I got those numbers with just the ASA kit and nothing else added to the car.
Drivability is just fine, I could drive her as a daily driver if I so choose.
If you are a NYC local let me know, I will take you for a ride.

Don't forget that AA usues a Rotrex blower.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but the reason AA had to include an oil cooler was because the Rotrex unit's get very hot and w/o the oil cooler they would get severely damaged.

Go ASA bro, It has been hand picked by alpina. Almost all the Big german tuners are using this kit(ie G-power, Hamann, kelleners) Certainly it is the best out there which is why all these big tuners use this kit.

OOPS I meant AA uses a Rotrex

ASA, i've been researching which one to get for the last 3-4 months, and finally went with the ASA. Like previously mentioned, the only down side is no software. However, everyone seems to be running fine without it...

Hey man, when you get your kit installed lets meet up sometime. I would love to see a S/C 330 in my area

I actually just accepted a new job in Poulsbo, so i'm moving back to my home town (silverdale). I'll be up in seattle for the weekends though, since my girl is up here. Sam just told me my ASA just shipped today , so hopefully in the next month i'll have it all ready to go!

I'd make a drive down to Poulsbo to check out your ride when you get the ASA installed and broken in

Thanks again for all the responses. My mind is almost made up on which supercharger to get, but I had a few more questions...
Didn't RMS also previously offer a supercharger kit without software? And didn't that lead to a variety of problems?
I just keep coming back to the fact that control of the air/fuel mixture is critical in making a supercharger work correctly. Do any of you have concerns about the long-term reliability and durability of your engines?
Does ASA or RennSport offer a warranty with this kit? And how much did most of you end up paying for your kits?
Thanks again!

crispvx has had his kit on for about 10,000 miles and not a single problem yet and also ASA supercharger kits still make more power with only 6.5 psi's....The asa unit uses a piggy back system to control the air to fuel ratio....mine worked fine with no check engine lights or anything after i tuned it.....
