how many of you are actually around the Boston area?
I see so many BMWs and I always wonder if one of them are a fellow e46fanatic member.

Also in Boston. Don't know if there are any other fanatics here who could be my neighbors, but apart from my car, there's also another 330Ci, a 323Ci, a 325i, a 330i, a 330Cic and an M3 in our building's garage. So...if you're living in the Fort Point Channel area, give a shout out.

Do you get Boston Bimmer magazine from BMW CCA? That lists all the new boston area BMWCCA members each month... it's usually about 50-100 per. Some of those must be here.
I used to live in Waltham and I know there are about a dozen from that area that post here.

I'm in Boston. My car is a 2003 Steel Blue 330i with clears, eyelids, DDE's, an ACS three piece, ACS roof Spoiler and full M-Tech kit.
My commute usually happens around 9:30 along the JamaicaWay into Boston. I work in the South End,and park in a private lot. If your lucky, you'll see me driving around town like a crazy mofo...
We need a special hand sign to recognize the E46fanatics from the other modded cars out there.
Maybe even a meet sometime???
I'll be at the BMWCCA Concours on June 19th, 20th at the Automobile museum in Brighton. We should plan a ride into the show together...
I also religiously attend BMWCCA meetings here. Never been to a Boston Chapter autocross, or driving school though.
Later,
Daniel

I think 310 ryda already has a e46fanatics hand gesture.
Brighton has an automobile museum? wow. Maybe I will go too if I get back on time.

I know you were more interested in forum members, but we can utilize the BMWCCA events to meet and talk about our cars and ****.
Here's the info. on the upcoming North Atlantic Concours d'elegance at the automobile museum in Brighton:
http://www.boston-bmwcca.org/events/2004/concours.asp
It's open to everyone pretty much. Should be a fun day.
Oh, and I'm not a super hardcore member here like you are, so what's the hand gesture??? I'll use it if I see a pimpin' 3 series. I figure I'll either meet one of you, or someone will think I'm throwin' gang signs. (If you knew me you'd think that was hilarious, me throwing gang signs...)
Sounds like we could have a little posse here. Anyways, I remain.

You guys should definitely attend a driving school around here... Lots of fun, totally legal, and you actually get to use those perf mods.
Also... for future reference, best events at the Auto museum are:
1: Italian Car Day - Tons of Ferraris, lots of Alfas and a few Lambo/ Maseratis. If you can't make the whole thing, show up for the end. All the cars light it up as they peal out of there. Gets your heart going when you hear those v12s redlining.
2: Bonhams and Butterfields Auction - Cool antiques on auction... cooler cars in the parking lot. Last year I parked across from a Mclaren F1!!!
3: BMW Day: Get to meet and great (lots of Fanatics will be there)
4: German Car Day: This should really just be Porsche day because all the bimmers will be there the week before.
Here's a link to the schedule: http://www.mot.org/Events/lawn.html

OK. So now I think the next step is to compile an email/ phone list so we can be in touch whenever we want to get together for a meet. Not everybody checks this forum daily, at least I know I don't. besides it's easy to miss a thread.
Seriously, that would be fun to have like twenty E46's cruising through Boston. How about a 2 A.M. run down the JamaicaWay? Anyone game??? Who's a driver?
All Boston fanatics who are interested in a meet should PM me or 10chi their email addresses and/or phone numbers if they want to know about it...
I say our first meet should be June 19th/ 20th at the automobile museum for the aforementioned festivities. Check out www.boston-bmwcca.org for more info.
Hopefully my new rims will be ready by then... Don't ask, it's a surprise!

Hey I'm from the Boston area!
I live in Andover, Mass
I drive a black 328I slightly modded.
i live andover and boston, got places in both.
Funny you should ask--I'm getting tints tomorrow. I'll be going to Tint King in Billerica and will also be getting the Xpel clear bra stuff for my headlights and front end. I'll report back tomorrow night.
Yo, you're going to Tint King tomorrow? I'm supposed to be going thursday, but I called up to switch and go tomorrow, maybe I'll see you there. I have a silver supercharged 330i(2001).
well what do ya know. i was there today(weds) getting my windows tinted too. i saw both of your cars there. enjoy the tint guys!

So that was you I saw driving in when I was leaving--your car is GORGEOUS.
p.s. for anyone else in the area looking for tints--Tint King did a nice job for me, and I'd definitely recommend him.

^^ how did they do on the dot matrix and how dark did you go? i'm already tinted 35% all the way around but i'm thinking of going darker in the rear- my current tint stops short too :dunno:

I have a black interior so I decided to do 50% only. Gadgetcar (another fanatic) was there at the same time and he did 35%. He has a grey interior and to my eyes, there wasn't that much of a difference between our cars. He's got pics of both our cars, so maybe we can post them to do a comparo. You know that 35% is the legal limit for us, right? If you go darker you might have to find a "friendly" place to get your inspections done.

Damn thats awesome I will defenitly be looking for your car. What is the color/model so I will no who I'm looking for.
nzDave, small world. Burlington is the greatest, it's just a shame it's so isolated. Anyway, when did you graduate? I'm departed May 1999. Goddamnit, I miss that town.

NICE COLOR! haha. i got 50% sides, 35% rear window. i got some bubbles appearing on the dot matrix on the upper part of my back window, i'm hoping it will go away after it dries. how'd yours turn out?

newenegue: I was so distracted by the sight of your car that I almost rolled back on that incline! Hahaha...I thought I was seeing things--never seen a Silver Gray M3 in real life (only in my dreams). As for the dot matrix, the sides are 100% perfect and the left side of the back window has a few patches that aren't perfect. It seems better today after a couple of hours in the sun and I also spent a few minutes in there pressing it down between the dots. Seems to have helped a little bit. I'm thinking of using a rubber roller like the kind used for poster mounted to "iron" out the last few patches. The lower edge of the back window is also kinda impossible because of the rear deck. Did they get yours fixed?

How did the Tint's come out on your rear window with the Dot Matrix?? I had mine done at Easter Glass in Charlestown and am not 100% satisfied with the job. I want to have my rear window re-done and need to have my dad's 7 tinted.

I took two credit cards and cotton t-shirt...wrapped the t-shirt around the credit card a few times so you have a thick layer that will put enough pressure against the dot matrix and shove it into the space between the deck and window. Hold it down there for a few seconds (make sure its real hot out though). This takes some time but it works. I still have some spots where I couldn't get the bubbles out from, but it looks much better.

i had my previous car done at eastern glass and my current car done at tint king. i felt that tint king was much more professional than eastern glass, and tint king's finish product is much better too. there are less bubbles around the dot matrix and the 3M film seems to stick better than the llumar. the tint didnt come out perfect, but i am very satisfied. lets just say, if i were ever to tint my windows again i would ALWAYS go back to tint king. you pay for what you get.

what do you mean by saying the tint didn't come out perfectly?? what didnt turn out perfect??
All the windows on my car came out beautiful with the 35% Llumar from Eastern Glass. The only issue I have is with the back window where there are very very small bubbles that really aren't very noticeable except for me since I'm anal about details, and it seems like some dust got under the film in a few spots. leaving a white bubble looking spot.
I totally hear you about the level of professionalism...wasnt totally crazy about that Eastern Glass.
btw...eventually I plan on getting the car lowered with Eibach springs and I've heard that some ppl have run into a problem where the auto-leveling piece for the xenons broke while replacing the springs (apparently its in the bumper, not sure how the relates to the removing the springs though). Who should I take the car to that has proven experience with BMW mods?? HMS and Turner Motorsports is toooo far away, especially if I have to leave the car for the whole day. Anyone got any experience with Wheel Dynamix in Natick???

There's a DIY somewhere about lowering your car that basically says you should take out the the auto-leveling assembly. It didn't sound too difficult and a good shop should be able to do it for you. HMS is only 30 minutes away from Boston and they are right off 128--I've been there and they are a first-class outfit. For something closer to home, you might want to give Mighty Motors a call in Somerville. I've never been there myself, but have spoken to the assistant manager there and he was very knowledgable--they're the most often recommended independent for service in the Boston area.

I got the following from http://www.mass.gov/rmv/inspect/question.htm:
What are the specifications for aftermarket window tinting?
For most vehicles, aftermarket tinting that registers at least 35% on a tint meter on side windows immediately adjacent to the driver and front passenger seats, and side windows immediately to the rear of the operator and passenger, is acceptable. The rear window may be tinted to the 35% level, but the vehicle must be equipped with two outside rear view mirrors. The windshield may only be tinted down to the AS-1 line, which is usually located in the uppermost (6) inches of the windshield.

A little confused...do you have to remove the auto leveling function permanently to lower the car or just temporarily while it's being lowered. And based on what your saying it sounds like this must be done to avoid this piece from breaking. Out of curiosity...where is this piece and how is it that it can break by removing the springs?? I would think this piece is connected to the headlamps which are far away enough from the springs that they wouldn't break?!?!

Ok, here's the DIY that I was talking about. Honestly, it sounds fairly complicated if you're not used to doing this sort of stuff (I'm not). Just skip ahead to Part 3 where he talks about doing the front suspension. Enjoy.

Later,
Daniel

Yeah, now the EuroTrash b!tches must be sooooo happy. They can now bring their cars up to 50MPH on Newbury. Big F'in dealy...
I'll be happy when they re-pave the J-Way up to Center st.. otherwise it's a moot point.

Hi all I'm bone stock and new to BMW. 2000 328Ci in steel grey is what im driving. I do thrash around a bit around town and maybe thinking about getting into a suspension upgrade (non-sport is what I have now and I think I need to lower a bit to reduce the gap in the tire well). Any suggestions about suspensions?
A get together sounds like a good idea...

oh yeah, stay away from this site. Unless you enjoy needlessly spending too much money on your car... It's very very dangerous here. :lmao:
So, with that said, what will your first mod be??? Any plans?

I'm from Boston, Brookline to be precise...If you see a white E46 M3 with Maryland plates around Boston, that'd be me. The car's still stock coz I just got it back from the body shop after a big accident. Hopefully soon I'll have my sideskirts, front lip, roof spoiler, and some other stuff that are currently collecting dust, put on. I have two female friends with BMWs around Boston also, one with a modded LSB M3 with 19" Mayas, hamann roof spoiler, Remus exhaust, H&R coils, some major ICE, and some other stuff. The other girl has a white 2003 325Ci. Both Asian. They're not on this forum tho.

I'm in Boston as well. I live in the West End one block from Beacon Hill and drive 2002 330ci in steel blue. I have served as the autox chairman for the Boston Chapter BMW CCA in the past a few years, Club Raced an E36 M3 in I Prepared for 2.5 years, and have served as chief instructor/instructor evaluator/mentor/regular instructor for Boston Chapter's fabulous driving schools. I encourage any and all to head out to the auto and then the track to have some fun and learn... it's way too fun though and can be a slippery slope. ;) I commute every day down I93 south to Rt 3 and thank my lucky stars it's a reverse commute because the other side looks like it sucks. :)
If you do come to a driving school try and find me and say hi. I used to teach for a lot of clubs but Boston is my home chapter and favorite. Don't get out much now as weekdays are pretty much shot for me since I gave up the consulting lifestyle for a full time gig.
Cheers,
Dave Spragg

I am in the city from time to time. Wave hi if you see me around, I have E46fanatics stickers on my car.
