to make a long story short, I finally pick up my car from the installer shop today. I haven't rev over 3000rpm while driving since the S/C unit need 1000km break-in period (not sure exactly how long?) . My impression is that the car doesn't feel as powerful as I expected. Of course, the S/C unit doesn't obtain full boost until 2500rpm, but i hope the car will get faster as time goes. By there's a big problem, my engine shut off while driving by itself about 10 times today, since I picked it up this afternoon :dunno: however, there's no EML light while driving what's so ever. I'll drop the car to the shop again tomorrow to see what's going on. I'll keep posted...

xS3x, should he be feeling the power at 3000rpm?
I thought the break-in was first 500miles @ 4,000rpm ??? (Someone please correct me if I am wrong)

he should be able to feel some sort of boost at 3,000 RPM already..but not that much

My boost gauge is still in vacum at 3000 rpm, unless I punch it :yikes:
Trust me, you will feel the poser after the break in when you are not afrai to really punch the car.

hi guys, I called my installer today (they are actually a BMW dealer). My car is the 3rd ASA SC kit installation done by them, they've also done many ESS & AA SC kits on E46/E36/E53 before. So I think they're pretty reliable. Anyways, I won't be able to have the technicians check my car until next Tuesday. This is what I observed so far, the accidental engine shut off ALWAYS happen at the following condition. When I push down the clutch, disengage from any gear into neutral. The situation being coming to a near complete stop, or coasting when I see a red traffic light ahead. E.g, I disengaged 3rd gear @ 2000rpm into neutral, the rpm would drop down to 500rpm, sometimes the car would rev back up to around 800 rpm, and it goes fine. some times it drops below 500rpm and never came back on!!! ENGINE SHUT OFF....
However, I don't have any checking lights what's so ever. And I did feel more power from 2000rpm on, especially from 2500-3000rpm...I think the SC unit's potential is being developed now. My kit actually came with a Infinitas badge. But i'm not sure if there's any difference between it and ASA. I'll take some pics of the SC kit tomorrow.

Infinatas or ASA they are the same.
Kashif- good to hear that you got your S/C installed and sorry to hear about the hiccup; my own break-in period was around 400 miles in that my boost would come at around 3.5K rpm (I panicked at first but my dealer said this was normal). After the break in period the boost came in at 2.5K and has been fine ever since.
I did get an engine shutdown on several occasions but that was due to my changing of the camshafts and once I had the ECU remapped it it was fine.

The car is in "learning mode" so it's perfectly normal for the power to feel "off" right now since the fuel maps are not set for a supercharger. You also don't need to wait 1000KM to break in the SC...100-200 miles is enough.
Once you've done that, be sure to drive the car hard so the ECU can reset the fuel trim...then you will feel the car gradually getting stronger.
Also, the neutral shut-off is a by-product of adaptation...this will go away once the ECU has reset itself. If it doesn't, check if the tech installed the splash guard on the air filter...this sometimes has been known to choke the air supply under light throttle and cause the engine to die. It is not necessary to have this part installed.

Samir, thanks for the reply. I've got the splash guard around the air filter installed. Since it rains most of time around the year here in vancouver. The first day that I picked up my car after installation, it rained, and I found out that there's plenty of water spots on the spalsh guard, therefore, I think it's necessary, otherwise the filter would suck in rain water into air inlet tube during high speed driving.
Also I've got autothority ECU software upgrade when my car was a N/A car, and the installer said it would work okay with ASA SC kit, would it be the cause of the problem? Should I ask them to flash my software back to factory default?
At last, when will RENNSPORT SKII (larger injector & custom ASA SC software) come out? I doubt many ASA SKI owners are waiting for it

I had a word with ASA when i ordered the kit. i have the superchip software installed. They recommeded to me to have the software removed before the supercharger install. Anyway having it removed on monday. So yes i would suggest you have the software removed until the ASA software does come out.

what would happen if someone didn't break in the supercharger? y is that so important?

Same reason why its important to break in your car.
samir@technik

Remove that Autothority garbage ASAP...that can only cause problems.
As for rain, this should not be a concern. Any water will be vaporized by the compressor, long before it ever reaches the engine. Of course, sitting in a 3 foot puddle of water will cause problems, but a little splash guard isn't going to help you in that situation anyways.

The bearings in the SC need to seat properly. Breaking the compressor in ensures longer life.

i will check the ASA manual tommorow and let you know, but i think this is the limit i read on it.

Sorry dude i tried looking at the manual. Couldnt find it. Suppose i was mistaken(since i just rushed though the manual first time i saw it), i thought i had seen some rpm limit level. I could call ASA and find out since i am having the install done saturday. I will keep you posted on this. :)

///Mike, You seem to be running a really careful break-in session. When Samir posted, he said 100-200 miles, then hammer it. Mike you just being extra careful? Or there something I am missing?
kashif, thanks for looking dude, no worries.
Everyone seem to do this break-in in there own way. I think I am going to do 200miles at 3,000 rpm, then 200miles at 4,000 rpm. Then hammer it to the redline.
Does that sound ok guys?

I think it sounds fine. :) i'd probably follow the same path. Specially since its summer season now in dubai hence it is very hot hence i will be keeping it light.
