Hi everyone !!
I have a big problem with my ASA-330ci : :banghead:
I just installed the ASA kit in my 330ci,and I feel wonderful about it until I found the problem----the engine oil was wasted(about 500ml in 2 days)
Does anyone eles have the same problems?
Does it happened all the time with the ASA kit or just a coincidence?
Why it happened and how?
Thank a lot!!

When you finished installing the kit you should have added another 1/2 quart of oil since the compressor is now part of your engine's oil supply...did you do that?

luwi, I concur with Technik. Check with the tech who installed the kit.

There are a number of ASA cars on this forum, and I have yet to hear anyone burn that much of oil in 2 days.

Another reason I went with AA, it has its own oil

just because AA's unit needs so much oil from what i hear.....

1 quart, and better than hot engine oil running thru a blower

doesn't seem to lose any power or reliability to me so i'm fine with it....

Thanks for your reply:
To Technik:
We have checked the oil level after the installation and the level was ok.But the oil light was on after a high speed running(persisted at high rmp) for about 30 mins.I found the level was reduced without any leakage from the bottom---

So do you mean that someone still have burned their oil but just not as much as I do?

rich, please don't take this the wrong way. Nor do I have the intention to start a debate of any kind. ;) First thing first, ASA has tested their compressors to engine oil at a temperature of 130C.

While I do give a thumb-up for cooling the compressor oil, the engine oil is equally important to be cooled. One of the reasons I went with ASA instead of AA, is the lack of expansion of the latter kit. Since I track my car so very othen, so what if I wanted an engine oil cooler?

This question however was answered with my last engine oil cooler project with Rennsport. I have a system that cools both compressor and engine oil (well, they are the same oil anyway).

Definetely agree... I like the fact that AA brings a separate oilcooler, but I would also like to keep my engine oil cool; now if i wanted to do this with the AA kit, does Rennsport still offer a solution? Or is there no space left! :P

Yes, just add the oil cooler and you have the best of both worlds. I have the filter add-on cooler.

Hate to burst your bubble, but the only reason why AA runs a separate oil cooler just for the compressor is because of reliability issues regarding the Rotrex blower. I don't know of any other compressor (whether used as a supercharger or turbocharger) that requires a separate oil cooler just to keep the compressor from falling apart.

The fact that "luwi" is showing a loss of engine oil without any leakage tells me this has nothing to do with the compressor and everything to do with the lack of oil added to the engine after the installation was completed.

LoL! :D We will find space somehow! Say, do you need the AC system? ;)

The other idea is to use a water-cooled application, instead of air-cooled. With the former, you don't need to mount the heat exchanger in front of the car. But again, space is limited.

The reason why the oil level checked "ok" after installation was because you did not run the car yet. The oil was still sitting in the engine. After you ran the car, the oil supply had made it's way through the compressor and thus was showing a "loss" of engine oil. You must add a 1/2 quart immediately after installation.

I need to correct my statement on that...

What I meant was I don't recall any owner on this forum or any other with ASA mentioned about oil loss. For me, I have never once topped it up. Even at track events, I was expecting some oil loss, still everything went well.

Come to think of it, my extra bottle of engine oil is not even opened yet! ;)

EDIT: forgot to add my suggestion about checking oil, but what Technik said is correct. You need to let car run for a while to allow the oil to go through the system. ;)

I too had to add about 1/2 to 2/3 of a litre immediately after my install and the oil level is no holding with no problems. Figured it was due to the kompressor's oil requirement and expected it.

Guys dont forget that hot oil makes more HP

You would would think that the AA kit, with injectors, software, 8 psi pulley, and own oil, would spank the ASA kit.

I cant wait to get my software and 8 psi pulley from rennsport, then we will compare the numbers once again.
