My buddy has a blower on his car and he ordered a blowoff valve type thing for it. I'm gonna help him put it in when it arrives. I'm kinda curious to see it. :dunno:

open air blow off valve on a metered air system such as the E46 is a bad idea from what I have gathered. Leads to rich fuel/air mixtures.

That is correct, it makes it run rich for a very very short while each time u let off the gas. Its a sound thing, it doesnt to anything for perfomance(i seriously doubt it, but that running rich could make your car a milli-tick slower).

All it will do is make your car run rich in between shifts(this is bad for the engine)....ie almost no air and all fuel, since boost is purged with the BOV. You can make it as loud as you want, depending on the stiffness of the springs inside the BOV(ie the boost level that the valve is actuated at). You will actually gain performance by putting a recirculation valve which keeps the boost flowing between shifts. BOV valves have a purpose for cars running really high boost, but running a BOV at 6psi is pretty stupid...

I wouldnt say it bad for the engine, its just not preferable. Running rich is safe, running lean is dangerous.

yeah bad idea on most sc's...however on mine when going from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd for and so on it makes a whistle inbetween shifts...kinda sounds like a bov....hehehehe :pimpin:
