View Full Version : My first CEL, what do you do?

This just happened with my ASA.

had done 140 miles in it, and was running it in, so decided to cruise at 3K rpm (that's all I have taken it to so far), for other 100 miles on the freeway.

When I hit 240 miles on the SC, I went up to 4,000 rpm, and was cruising there, with cruise control. After a few minutes, the CEL came on. First time ever, in the short time i have had the kit. I was 60 miles from home, and did not know what to do, so just cruised back under 3,000 rpm.

I had 4 people in the car and myself, I dropped my friends off, It was just me in the car..... Oh my god its FAST, it feels so much faster just up to 4K. I did not want to take it further, cos of the CEL.

So my question is guys, what do I do, and what does this mean??

Is it bad to drive with the CEL on??? Does that mean something is going wrong. Should I not drive? Drive at low rpms??

My ASA is set to 7, have never moved it. Sould I turn it up to 8??

Will the CEL light then go, or is there someway to reset it??
Do I have to go the dealer to do this?

The plan was to take it on the dyno after the 400 miles run-in; and then tune the AFR to 12.1 at the red line, while on the Dyno.

Is it ok to carry on driving around at 4K rpm, and then just do as planned with the dyno tune in 100 miles time?

Thanks Guys.... help please.

Probably the fact that the ASA does not have an ECU remap. So has to be fine tuned. But I don't know as much as other, so guys please correct me if I am talking crap.

Trying to get help though..... so guys please don't start a SC vs. SC vs. SC on my thread. We have loads of those already.

So can anyone please explain the whole CEL thing to me... thanks guys.

Assuming that your kit was installed 100% correctly (seems like the Asa kit isn't the easiest to install) and your car appears to run fine etc.... i don't think you need to worry too much about the CEL as long as your not pushing to redline. Seems like most people get the cel light due to a slight lean condition in two cylinders. I've seen the AFR and a dyno of a 330 running the asa kit and he gets the cel light from time to time. His AFR seems to get alittle lean under light throttle but nothing dangerous. Just enough to trip the cel light to go on. I would confirm with Sam/Samir and see what they have to say about this. Keep us updatd on this.

Alan, thank you for your reply.

I will keep it under 4.5K and do other 100 miles and take it to the shop and tune the AFR on the dyno with the ASATronic then. yeah?

OK one more question.

I just took these now as well. Is this normal????

Can you see the liquid, it looks like it came from the center bolt. It was no there before the 200 miles i just did. Is this normal. ??

A bit worrying I would say....

Durgesh, I replied in the yahoo group but i will post something quick here, get an obdII scantool, do a search there are lots of options. I think this is pretty common until the ECU remaps and adjusts. I would dial up to 8 to err on the rich side just in case you are running lean. I would however get the scan done and adjust accordingly.

I am not sure what the liquid is I would wipe it completely clean and monitor it from there....is it oil?

The asatronic at 7 is a tad low...you should try clearing the CEL and turing it to 9, that should keep it from coming on.

The pic looks like grease, not oil.

Omes, Technik, Thank you both for your reply.

Ok I am going up to 9.

If the car becomes happy at 9, will the CEL go off, or do you still have to reset it?

I just set the car to 9 on ASATronic, and drove around 10 minutes changing at 4,500 rpm.

Happy to report the Light has gone.!!!!

I will get it “properly” cleared when they dyno tune it.

Thanks you to the ASA Crew and Samir.
