Just to let you all know, Crutchfield has gotten a special order of the now discontinued 7998. Read the reviews and plus this unit looks sweet and matches the amber lightning of the BMW. Original price was $799, but they have them at $399 now. If I can find some referral coupons around here, I will post them so you can get another $20 off in interested. :yikes:

Yeah I was looking at that, but I am confused, which one is higher quality? the 7998 or the cda-9835?

The CDA-9835 is a new model for 2004 whereas the 7998 is a 2003 model. One diff is that the 9835 supports ID3 V1 and V2 tags on your mp3s.
Yup Yup!

You really don't need v2 tags do you (Composer, original artist & copyright info)? From what I've read somewhere else, the internals of the 7998 is just like the 7995 meaning higher quality internal parts (board, circuitry, etc.) thus cleaner sound. I've seen both in person right next to each other (Ultimate Electronics) & the biolite screen's a little taller w/the 7998.

In that case why would anyone get the older model when the newer one is the same price? Crutchfield = RIPOFF!

yeah cructhfield is a hug rip off, but I have to admit, they do give decent service. That's all you're paying for, the so called "support".

Yeah, it depends on your taste. I got the 7997 like last week before this one dropped in price. We always want the highest end product, but in reality, most of us never use anything up to its potential.
