I've read time and time again about radar's on this and other boards. I've haven't owned a radar in years b/c I didn't have a use for it and rarely speed b/c of my work schedule. Working in a 24 by 7 tech environment with my hours being 2pm to midnight, I rarely ran into traffic and could commute in 10 - 15 minutes. Well, that's all changed.. I'm working a new shift of 7 to 5 and I've found my 15 minute commute to change to 45 minutes at minimum, plus having to now drop my daughter off for day care I'm now up to 1hr 30min commute mainly b/c of traffic. My first day on this new schedule, I get popped at 24 miles over the speed limit cruising with the flow of traffic. Not only that, the cop got me where the speed limit changes from 55 to 45, hence making my 14 mph speed overage to 24 over. Long story shortened, the copper got me with LIDAR, one mile away from where he was clocking (which I believe should have put me in the 55mph zone) and I'm fed up. I'm seriously contemplating going with the escort 8500 x50 (new model) with escort ZR3 laser shift (active laser jamming system - http://www.radartest.com/article.asp?articleID=8502) for a couple of reasons. V1 doesn't offer any laser jamming capabilities and the second reason being, EVERYBODY I've spoken to in this wonderful state of VA that has been ticketed is ticketed by LIDAR. While I don't intend on speeding, I do stay somewhat with the flow of traffic while not going too much over, but I continuously see speed trap after speed trap during these morning commutes and again during the end of day commute. I'm looking for people that have done or seen stealth installs, since it's illegal to have radar detectors in VA (another crummy law). I'm not talking just the stealth indicator like the V1 comes with, I'm talking hidden EFFECTIVE radar's.

Also, if your post has anything to do with advising me to slow down, please save your time and DON'T post. Thanks.

I would recomend the V1 in a concealed on the sunvisor w/ a remote display in the ash tray. They, put the ZR3 shifter display in the sunglass compartment. The V1 gives front and rear and, on the highway, you will need to know where the cop is comming from. Check your PM.

the best tool is your eyes, be aware of your surroundings and you should spot a copper before he is close enough to get you. also a solid radar and your eyes should be all you need, besides picking your spots to speed.

I have an escort 7500 and speed mainly on the highway where no cops can hide and i have a good view. And I did this for 2 years without a radar, so just having a radar will not save you. In texas where I like basically every cop uses instant on radar so your only chance of a warning is when he is shooting at another car. Also hardly anyone down here uses laser, i've never detected laser before.

In nova, it's mainly rolling radar on the large highways, staionary radar on heavily used roads, and laser on speedy roads w/ a good view (so they can pop you from a long distance)

true, i'm just saying on the highway you'd have a better chance seeing them and detecting them shooting at someone else in front of you.

Virginia is one of the 4 states that strictly prohibits use of a laser jammer.. a worse ticket then having a radar detector. VA, Ut, Ca, and W. DC have specific laws against laser jammers.
