Yesterday I spotted a white 996 Carrera 4s while I was driving 2 blocks from my house. He was 2-3 cars behind me while we both got jammed in a red light. The light turned green and we made a left turn onto a bigger road. He swirwed between the lanes (not aggressively) and eventually ended up behind me. There were 3 cars ahead of us blocking each line. When I finally had an opening, I floored it and changed lanes. He followed right behind. Another red light and we line up next to each other. Neither of us was revving or signaling anything, but we both knew... :mischief:

Light turns green...we take off, not aggressively, but "sporty". Once I get my car on the move, I floor it and hear the Porsche doing the same thing with a 0,5 sec delay. (He was prepared for this) ...2nd...3rd. At about 75 mph I hear my RD go, I take my foot off of the pedal and coast down to about 60mph just to find out that it's one of those speed tellers. Porsche goes by and eventually brakes for the next red light. I'm done as I take my turn right to LAF parking lot.

So, I had an 0.5-0.8 sec advantage over him, but he did not catch up. Don't know what would have happened after the 75mph. Maybe he would have eventually destroyed me... :dunno:

Damn! Nice run! By the way, what size rims are those on your car?

I'm running 18x8.5" all around with Bridgestone S03's 225/40/18 Front & 255/35/18 rear...

Nice, but dont forget Porsche's have a very good high end power band so at higher speeds he could have stared to pull on you...but BMW's do have a nice band at high speeds too, and i've learned that one

Nice run!!!

I tried the stock rim and tires from an M3 and the rear ones hit on the fender. They were r18 255/40... did you do anything else? Do they hit...i guess the extra 5mm makes a difference...i know, i know, its not the tire and wheel forum.... :hmm:

You had him up top! C4S isnt that fast. Remember its AWD so its slower off the line as well as top end unless he launches which wont happen. From a 70+mph roll, the porchse doesnt pull as long as you are in boost 4500+rpms. I like toying with them too, but once they hear the airplane noise, they all back off.

Juha, your car is good for mid 13's I would say. I think its time to get the 3.46 back :hi: .

We will see eachother soon at Moroso. I have tons of funny stories including bye bye C5 Vette and 911 C2 :craig: .

The sleeper effect os just too damn sweet. :P

I had the same set up last year, on OEM sport suspension, and got rubbing, SO3's seem to be "oversized", have you rolled your arches???

Thanks

I haven't rolled my fenders yet. There is minimal rubbing when cornering hard on an uneven pavement. I guess my "extreme" negative camber helps me out a little. Though I might need to roll the fenders if I installa camber correction arms later...

I'll take some photos and post them later tonight...

The offset in the M3 wheel is wrong for a non-M E46...

i dont think the porsche could have taken you. Since you got more Torque & almost equal hp. It would have been a tough battle higher up in the band since you are making all that boost near red line.

Was on my way to the airport and was running late in the rain. I took off after paying the toll Fee and he saw me and took off as well. I wondered how I would do against a Carrera 4 with my car being 4wd just like his, this was my first race against a carrera 4 in this VW R32. Every time we went , I pulled on him, the whole time he was behind me. We started from a roll and went to about 220 KMH/R as we both ran out of room and rain got heavy at times an dthe other times we had to slow down for police. I believe that they are fast but not that fast, don't know how I would have done at the end as I know Porshes have good top ends bu I he had mine to 272 KMH/R. Am not sure how accurate VW'S speedometers are but it is fast though for a normally aspirated V6. I wonder how it would run against my 330ZHP with the ASA kit..
