View Full Version : Denso Iridium's Installed
Well finally got around to installing these, to Samir at Rennsport for getting these for me as they are not available in Canada. Other than losing the spark plug wrench down in the cylinder and fishing it out for an hour made and adjustment to the spark plug wrench (see electrical tape on wrench below) and other than that it went pretty smooth.
My first impressions of the new plugs is whoa, what a difference, the car seems so much smoother and more responsive and it is so quiet at idle now, definitely worth it especially for the FI application.
Attached are some pics, I remember my dad telling me you can tell alot about how the car is running by the color of the plugs (too rich/ too lean), he's on vacation right now so I was wondering what you guys think of the colour of the plugs, they look pretty rough for 15000kms (10k stock and 5k with SC setup). All of my previous issues (CEL's) were because I was too rich does the condition of these plugs reflect that?
Anyways life is pretty good right now, no CEL's (SES's) for over 5 weeks now and the car is running awesome! Can't wait for SK2 and SS headers!

Invest in one of those magnetic attenas, saves allot of time fishing things out.
It has already saved me 4-5 times :)

Nice!!
I Noticed the idle effect also! (Smoother and quieter)
About the colors, looks like you're running rich, which of course is just how you want it to be... :)

Nice.....I still have my set that I have to install. I wanted to compare how the bosch plat 4's compared with the Densos so I was going to swap them in after i log on some miles on my old plugs which are pretty new anyways (less than 8K)

I tried mine, and yes mine has saved me a few times but the rubber on the inside of the socket was stuck to the spark plug, oh well lesson learned :)

Thanks for confirming that I was sure the light/med brown meant I was a little on the rich side. I have never got a lean code no matter what my Asatronic was set to.

What do you have them gapped at?
What do you have them gapped at?
They come pre-gapped, I believe they are 0.032.

Nice... how was the car feeling before you installed the Denzos?
What tempreture did you end up going with? I have IK20s on my car and was thinking about going IK22.
Mr.Paddleshift, didn't get an email?
Crispvx: Not sure but guessing they should last at least 20,000km-40,000 kms that is probably when I would switch mine out, I drive less that 10k a year so every 2 years isn't too bad. Cheap for a little piece of mind.
Cali6869: Everything has been really good these past few weeks, seem like the car is just a little smoother, notice especially at idle and when I am hard on the gas.
Wyu: I went with the IK22's, it is was rennsport recommended.

Ohhhhh this is soooo true... I lost a nut 3 times in my trunk area (impossible to get to) and magnetic antenna is a life saver when working with stuff like that.

Put mine in yesterday (IK22). Why did I wait (had the plugs for months)?
These plugs are great. After getting my AA supercharger installed, I found myself having to use more gas at low RPMs. I could no longer take off smoothly in 1st or reverse without giving it some gas (otherwise it would cut off, or studder). Also, I didn't seem to get any good torque until about 2000-2300 RPM.
Now, I am able to take off smoothly in 1st or R without any gas (like I did before AA). Idle is butter smooth now, and my low end torque (from 1000 to 2300) has improved noticeably. I was able to accelerate in 4th gear today from about 35 MPH very smoothly. Before, being in a high gear was always a struggle until I hit 2000 RPM.
Call me crazy, but my shifts are smoother now. It seems so much more responsive when I shift and apply the throttle. No hint of hesitation.
I am at 70k miles...AA went in at 60k.

I'm still running my stock ones.
I have had my Denso's for months as well, but they are IK20's.
Should I stick them in, will they help? Or should I just buy a pair of IK22's, and don't bother with the IK20's at all.

Um.. :hmm: CAn I ask why were you in 4th gear at 35mph? Is it normal to do that? :dunno:

Correction, it was a typo. Acceleration was from 25 MPH [not 35 MPH] in 4th. (I was doing so to test low end torque). There is definitely more usuable low-end torque from 1000-2500 RPM.
