View Full Version : Latest DTC Codes - ASA 330

My CEL light usually goes on/off intermittently. I have noticed don't know if it's coincidence , that if I let the car run to a near empty tank of gas my CEL comes on. I've had slight lean conditions and my last dyno run is below. The latest DTC's I'm getting are :
p0369 - Camshaft Position B Circuit Intermittent
p0313 - Misfire Detected With Low Fuel
P0174 - System too Lean
P0174 is nothing new p0313 has been rare, havent had that since I first installed the ASA kit last year. P0369 is new to me. Anyone have any ideas. My ASAtronic is already jacked up to 10. Car runs/feels fine except for the CEL being on. I'm going to dyno it sometime soon again and have my afr checked again. Not even sure how bad my lean condition is. The Scan tool says LTFT are -11.72 if that helps. Anyone have any ideas?
edit: With the AFR in the pic below I wasn't set at 10 on the ASAtronic, probably around 8

I have never got a lean condition, no matter what the asatronic was set too, I am always rich, that AFR from that dyno looks really good in my opinion, you are sitting a +12.3 at WOT, I am not sure why my afr curves are so steep and others I have seen are much flatter more linear. Wish i could help more.....nice torque by the way.
I know others non-FI related have had issues with the cam sensor, maybe could be a faulty sensor?
I have read others have had the same issues with the low fuel tank level.
Which scan-tool are you using by the way?

I'm using the one from www.scantool.net with v1.8 software. I've also tried a few other software options that are compatible with the ELM based scan tools but so far the one fron Scantool has been fairly consistent. Others have given me various com errors or couldnt find the car altogether. There's also software from Digimoto.com that looks decent but its $49 but has a PC based Dyno, but not sure how accurate it is.
hey I have that same scantool from them and didn't realize they released the new software, I am still using and early beta version!

I would say these 2:
p0369 - Camshaft Position B Circuit Intermittent
p0313 - Misfire Detected With Low Fuel
Have nothing to do with the SC. The misfire is most likely directly correlated to P0369. Sounds like you have a bad cam sensor, which isn't all that surprising as they are known to be faulty and are commonly replaced. I have them in stock if you need one.
The lean code is probably a result of cruising at light throttle which doesn't present a problem since combustion temps are not high enough at lower loads to cause problems. It's clear from your dyno, that @ WOT, your AFR is perfect.
Either way, our software patch should eliminate the lean code at low throttle.

I have a feeling it will be available soon

RR, are you on the ASA forum yet? If not, send me an email: alpina.nut@attbi.com
Your LTFT number is way negative. That means PCM is trying very hard to richen the mixture. If the number is positive, then it's trying to lean out the mixture. You want to stay around zero if possible. When you get the camshaft sensor replaced, reset the CEL, and drive around again. If you can, monitor the LTFT and also STFT.

Damn it! I got a CEL yesterday and plugged in my scantool to check it out (i have been CEL free for almost 7 weeks) and got the EXACT same value for LTFT -11.72...... and triggered my very first lean codes since I got my ASA. My Asatronic was set to 4.5 by the way. The code popped just as Samir described, I was cruising at about 100 km/hr in 5th gear (no load)and there it was.
Vince are there some ideal #'s to try and tune STFT and LTFT this too? is 0 correct.
Anyway to correlate these to AFR?
Omes.

I had those same 2 codes the last time I had my CEL on. That was some 3000 miles ago. The misfire was cured by changing the spark plugs and the cam-sensor code has yet to come back. No CEL for the last 3k miles.

Omes,
Remember I mentioned about resetting the ECU using a GT1 machine? This procedure is to reset the short term fuel trim (STFT) and the long term fuel trim (LTFT). The values are measured in percentage.
STFT is multiplicative and LTFT is additive. I have to dig up my PDFs again, but I believe the former is computed under high load and the latter under idle or low load conditions. Henceforth your LTFT is way negative. As mentioned you can infer AFR from these numbers.
STFT/LTFT too positive -> ECU trying to lean out.
STFT/LTFT too negative -> ECU trying to richen.
Unfortunately, I don't think you can fine tune by looking at STFT or LTFT. These two numbers give you an idea how the ECU is adapting.
As for ideal numbers, I believe you have to stay positive but less than one percent.
When you reset the ECU, you essentially reset both values to zero percent.

Vince, did the ecu reset at the stealership the day before my dyno (last thursday). Should I do another once i have got it dialed in?
Here is what it says on the workorder:
customer request: Reset ECU as per customer request
correction: Completed DIS Test and ran a quick delete
Is this ok.
Thanks by the way.
