What are the differences between these two kits?
-They both have a front mount intercooler right?
-Both come with injectors?
-I know AA comes with an oil cooler, does the ASA kit come with one?
-The AA kit is at 8psi while ASA SKI is at 6.5 right?
-Do either of these kit require you to send out the ECU, or do they come with software ready to install?
They are both priced the same, so I am thinking why not go with AA and get a few extra HP for the same price :dunno: They both use the Rotrex head unit right? Is one more reliable than the other? I know most of you here have ASA, but I know AA is a proven performer as well, so I thought I would just ask you guys your opinions on both kits.

-Correct
-AA comes with injectors. ASA will include injectors once their software is
complete. Should be ready soon.
-ASA does not come with an oil cooler. AA's oil cooler is only to cool the
Rotrex unit to safe operating temp. In the past, rotrex units have been
known to fail due to extreme heat generated by the compressor. They
changed their design and added a oil cooler to remedy this problem. It
does not cool your regular engine oil. Just the seperate oil supply for the
compressor
-Correct. AA is rated at 8psi and ASA SK1 at 6.5. SK2 will be 8psi.
-AA requires you to send your ECU to them in FLA. ASA comes with the
Asatronic which you install yourself.
AA uses the Rotrex unit very different from the ASA's TM12 compressor. ASA makes their own compressor in-house and has proven itself with the Alpina B7. From what i've read on the forums, a ASA 330 running 6.5psi puts out HP numbers equals or in most cases higher than a AA 330 running 8psi. Can you imagine a ASA car running 8psi then
When i was deciding on which kit to go with, my main concerns were (in this order):
1) Reliability
2) Support
3) Horsepower
The ASA kit to me was just the better choice and I'm reminded everytime i drive the car :) I'm sure if you contact Samir and other venders out there, you could pick up the ASA or AA kit for less than retail price.

thanks for that post, but I thought that ASA comes with injectors as well does it not? What does the full ASA SKI kit consist of?
Edit>just saw your post now Alan, thanks. So it would be definitely worth it to wait for ASA then huh? I have a few months to save anyway! Looking to make a purchase around Nov/Dec, early Christmas present to my baby

Nice :)
Seriously i'm loving my 2.5L with the ASA kit. The compressor makes boost as early as 2K and you feel it increase all the way up. The car feels amazing. Anyone thats going to be at bimmerfest ny is welcomed to take a ride in my car to see for themselves. I've driven 330's, modded 1.8T Gti's etc.... before and I am confident my car can hand them their a55 with ease. :shhh:

the asa taps into your regular oil pan as well right?
alan do you have a 325 or 323? wheres bimmerfest at?

323 baby :)
Correct. Some people have gone with the ESS method with having the oil return line drain back into the oil dip stick tube. I too was thinking of doing this for my ASA kit but after searching around alot of FI forums......most people agreed it wasn't the best method. My friend and I ended up tapping into the oil pan. Wasn't hard at all.

Have yet to see any independent dynos show an AA 330/325 @ 8psi put down similar numbers to an ASA 330/325 @ 6.5psi.

Yes, this is the best method of oil-return. The dip-stick method can create problems with the crankcase vent. In the event that you ever want to return the car back to stock, you can fill up the holes by taking it to a welder.

Why is it that no one ever brings up about me testing out ASA at the track events? :bawling: Why????
Btw, I just completed my 7th event at Buttonwilow the past weekend. I should have some cool videos soon. Watch out for the report! :P

I would really like see an AA put near 290+ to the wheels, without software and injectors and still have the reliablity of this unit also 260 ft/lbs of torque, they aren't even close, wait till we get our goodies.

Hey Samir,
How will the new software for the SKI be uploaded to the car? Will the ECU have to be sent in, a shark injector type device, or a download-able system like you had set up with the Technik software a lil' while ago?
Personally I'm thinking about delivering mine to you in person. :mischief: ;)

Ok guys, heres the deal, I do want to go with ASA, but I can get a pretty good deal on the AA setup. The shop that installs all of my stuff, just happens to get a decent amount of stuff from AA, so they get really good deals on everything. The guys from my shop told me they would hook me up with a good deal(i think like 15% off from the $6k that the kit costs). I don't want to sound like a cheap bastard, but that is very hard to pass up, UNLESS, Renn-Sport can hook me up a little :) I am not looking for the same exact price, but if you guys can come close to that, I will be more than happy to pick up the ASA kit  I will be calling you guys soon to see if we can get something going, if not, no harm done. I still respect you guys and the products that you bring to the market. It's just that when you start talking superchargers, that's a lot of friggin money, so I am kind of bargain shopping

It will either be via an Injector type device, or an OBD cable that will be included with the kit (to keep)...it can also double with an OBD scanner, which IMO every modified BMW should have.

No worries...whether you go AA or ASA, you will be happy. As a tuner/shop I can respect other people's products. We try to offer great products at great prices and are always looking to improve where we can.
People will be impressed with the second generation ASA-powered SC kits :)

That is why I respect you guys, and that is why I bought Technik Headers and Cams from you guys, but the supercharger is another whole category. The ASA SKI kit is $6K right?

I hate to continue to give out ETAs, since many have come and gone...all I can say is that we are working on it (it's not like we are trying to string people along). The problem is that all the software code is being written by our engineer who is not local to us. This creates a delay for each model car, as each ECU needs to be tuned independently.
75% of the work has been done, the hardest part is the last 25%...these things take time unfortunately, the more fine tuned the software, the better it will perform. I won't rush this under any circumstances.

Couple of dumb questions:
When SK2 from ASA will be available, will it cost exactly the same as SK1? Does the people with SK1 have to pay to upgrade to SK2?

:hi:
They will have to pay 1000$ if I remember correctly. What I don't understand is why a kit with an 8psi pulley costs 1000$ more than the same kit with 6.5psi pulley (as far as I remember, both SK1 and SK2 will be coming with software and injectors, just different s/c pulleys).
Hmmm.....

Those with the 323 with either AA or the ASA can you comment on how the car runs for you please. I have been thinking about getting the S/C and having AA only a little drive away I've been leaning towards them but I sure would appreciate the lowdown on how each system works for the 323. TIA
