Hello. I am looking at getting a turbo for my 330i...however, I'm nervous about the turbos i've read about. My freind has a Saab, and I know after a "fun" hard run, after he parks it, the fan still goes cause it's cooling the turbo/oil. I didn't see anything like that on the ATP turbo. Is this always neccessary? Also, do most manufactures/turbo makers guide you as to the maximum and safest boost you should go at?

I know that a turbo will put a lot of stress, wear, and tear on my car...but I'm trying to make sure that "preventive" measures are in order on most turbos. I mean, I'm not going to go buy a cheap one just so the waste-gate can fail, and i get a nice 30psi surge to blow my engine. Thanks for your help guys.

1. I hope you don't have a problem waiting.

2. You can get a turbo timer that will run the fan to continue to cool the engine and what not after you shut off the car.

I second that, allthough it's not only the fan, but also the oil must continue circulating trough the turbo itself to cool it down. Aren't turbo timers supposed to keep the car running for some while after you "shut down" the ignition with your keys? I'm sure that the oil pump won't work if the engine is not running...

Someone pls verify this...

Thanks guys, love this board. Yes, I know I will be waiting a bit for a turbo to be ready for production/sale. But I want to have all my ducks in a row, and my information ready so I know what to look for etc.

I'm not really too informed about all the in's and out's of turbo timers, all I know is that they keep part of the car running to cool things off, but you're right I'm sure it does to something to circulate the oil around in there.

As far as I know it keeps the whole car running at idle for a set amount of time. Both the fan and the oil continue circulation to cool and maintain the turbo. (Note: Most new Directed Electronics alarms/remote starts - Viper, Sidewinder, Clifford, etc. have turbo timer options built in which is pretty cool.)

Does anyone know the release date/price of this turbo system that is supposed to be coming out?

Lol... maybe once the e120 (or whatever it is that they call the 3er after the e90) is out.

Its been delayed so many times... the only thing we get to hear on this board is that it will be out next month, we have been hearing this since the last year.

most turbo timers have a standard setting of 30sec idle to allow the turbo to cool down, and a lot are setup to automatically be able to determine how long to let the engine continue to run after you remove the key. Check out Apex'i, GReddy, HKS, and Blitz models and see what you think. I just sit in my car for now, though I honestly don't care too much if my turbo goes, cause it's just an excuse to upgrade =0

Yeah, just worried about the turbo/heat hurting other components. I guess the other question is will the BMW alarm/security system allow something like that. Blah, I'm sure ATP, or whoever makes the turbo will figure all that out. :). That's what I'm paying for with the turbo anyway...T&D hehe.

Well, I can pretty much guarantee you that the ATP kit wont be coming with a turbo timer(I have never seen any turbo kit come with a turbo timer). That is something that you will have to worry about, but turbo timers are not that expensive, so you should be ok!

I mean R&D not T&D, sorry for the mispelling...but yeah, turbo-timer seems like something i'll be looking into then.

my friends with turbo'ed cars just sit in their cars for 5-10 minutes after they're finished driving...They haven't had problems so far, I'm starting to think that turbo timers are just an added assurance but not completely necessary. In my case, if i had a turbo i'd probably buy the turbo timer anyway...just make sure it has a good safety on it and you should be good
