amazingly enough since the stealthboxes mount into the metal of the frame which there are holes they're already. You could theoretically not drill one hole in your rear deck. I had already mounted the cd changer and amp on the rear deck, but I could have mounted them on the amp rack as well. Came out pretty good I think, heres a shot of how it fit around the subs

Yours looked really clean and I like how it was all enclosed in a box

Newbie question... can you use one single amp to power the stealthboxes as well as your fronts/mids ? If so, recommendations?

Sure. It just depends on how many channels the amp has and how you want to wire everything.

BTW, I really respect the fact you took the time to run a search and find an existing thread on the subject you were interested in. Good job! :D

Heh thanks vinnie...saw a post in the ICE forum but since it's new and all the many posts about the stealthboxes haven't been moved.

And when you reply it'll bump the thread anyways so why not :)

Anyways....anyone recommend some good amps to power the stealths as well as fronts and mids?

And whilst i'm asking....good replacement speakers for fronts and mids (stock OEM non-HK system) ?

a good amp to run the stealthbox is 2 x 150, that gives them perfect power. I have a bazooka 2150 , runs pretty well. However if you want hard hitting bass stealth box is not the way to go. They are only 8 inch IB4 woofers. They can blow easily as I have blown them twice already. However, i hooked up a 12 inch Alpine, so all the low bass goes to it and the mids go to the stealthbox, its much better this way i think. When you put a song on with too much bass it sound like gunshots, the poor 8 inch woofer sound like they are exploding. But the stealthbox is a very clean setup for people who do not want to take up too much trunk space.

I like what you did with your amp and changer, looks clean, looks good:thumbup:

Hey Vinnymac or nleeumd, I am also considering getting the stealthbox, and I have the CD changer mounted in the same place as you guys. I was wondering if all that bass makes the CD skip. I was thinking that if I got the stealthbox, I might move the CD changer to somewhere else cause I don't want it to skip.

this setup works great, it leaves enough room to put stuff in the trunk, and i only needed to drill one hold in the metal (minus the amp and cd changer) of the trunk. the carpeted area is supported by screws that I drilled into the stealth box.

Did u put that box in between the stealths in by yourself (the area where the cd changer & amp is) and was it hard if u did?
Here's a pic of where i mean:

Bascially we just made a shelf out of wood they use to make sub boxes, and you get some carpet and spray glue. I guess I shoulda took pictures. Its not that hard, just proper messuring. Mount the amp and the CD changer first, then outline the box so it fits securely.

If you have the so-called HK upgraded sound system with the so-called subwoofer in the trunk ceiling.

Do these still fit? Looking at mine, I do not see how they would work.

You have to remove the HK subs

And whilst i'm asking....good replacement speakers for fronts and mids (stock OEM non-HK system) ?

Atlas - on your questions - I personnally have a 300 with the non HK stock system (had the stock system) I had a JL Audio 300.4 (300w 4 ch) installed to run the fronts and 2 stealhboxes.
I just installed JLs separates in the front doors. I put 6.5" in with the separate tweets and left the stock mids in for some mid fill, as I think if I went with a tweet mid bass combo I wouldnt get as good an image. Well, the thing sounds GREAT without me tweaking it with my eq.!!! The 6.5 fit perfectly. If you look at the speaker, you will see a "lip" where the speaker is sealed to the metal basket - that lip kinda fits onto the plastic mount for the speaker. I then used back straps cut to 1" long and fastened that puppy down. I had to dremel out the tweeter mount as my JLs were already in their grills. NO problem with depth on the door.
If you want email me for more info.
I like the JLs. I had MB quarts in my last car and loved them, but folks are right on here...those neodynium tweets can sound too bright.
Enough rambling. Again - easy upgrade and sounds great!

Are you happy with the sound result. I just bought a set with a MTX Thunder 302 amp.

I'm planning to have it install early this week

Ack.... just found out the JL Audio distributor for Australia doesn't stock the stealthboxes! So if i want them... they can't provide service etc...they'd have to be specially imported....grrrr! Plus ultra expensive....*sigh*....

Anyone know if they can be purchased in Singapore / Malaysia? Warranty issues?

dt32569 - thanks for the info on your install! I'm definitely considering JL 6.5s for the fronts... expensive? How much more better are they than Alpine?

I went with the base TR series. THe Xr are around 250-300 a pair? I like the sound of the new TR series though. As far as Alpine? Well.....this is MY opinion...if you are gonna buy Alpine...buy electronics - not speakers. I personally have had nothing but bad luck with ALpine...but again - Id go with other speakers. If you want some mid priced ones - JL, Diamond, Polk..etc.
Good luck!

Can anyone help out with this? I was thinking of getting the stealth boxes instead since I don't want too much boom boom boom, but just some boom and a half.....

Hmm I am thinking of doing the Stealth box too. But i am worried about the sound, some people say that if the Bass is too loud the 8in freeair woofers cant handle it. I am thinking of the JL stealth box, JL or SOundstream amp, and a good set of fronts like MB Quart or Boston Acoustic. I was also thining of just doing 2 JLW3's in the trunk (10in), but i hear people saying that not enough of the bass gets through the rear trunk (i am planning of taking out the HK sub to allow the Bass to port through).

Which setup would i be happier with? Is there anyone around the Socal area that has stealthbox's that i can hear?

here's my solution, didn't want to take out stock mids for Bass so i made a "stealth box" my way, heres the pics, wanna hear it lemme know SoCal. finished it yesterday, very happy not too much Boom Boom, but adjusting the gain on the amp determines that anyhow.

THREAD REVIVAL!! I have the H/K system and was wondering if I need to take out the H/K subs that are visible in the trunk in that plastic box or do I take out the speakers in the passenger compartment under the plastic grills on the rear deck?

Yea, I've looked at that and it seems that you remove the speakers from under the grills in the passenger compartment. What do you do with the H/K subs then?

Whatever you want... you can leave them as subs, make them the new mid-woofers (kind of muffled but at least you have some rear filling; I did that), or just remove them.

If your h/k subs are not in the middle (mine weren't on my 330i) you have to take out both the subs and the speakers to get the jl stealth boxes in.
