Hi, It's my first post to this forum but I can certainly say that it's been very useful when buying and ironing out the first few glitches on my car.

I've got a 330I sport touring reg June 02. I had xenons in the car I had before and after them the standard halogens I've got now are scary!

I'm looking at getting some secondhand oem headlamps from ebay (probably in the US) but thought I would check to see if there are any things / differences I should be aware of...

My questions are:

-If the headlamps are the right shape (facelifted) will they definately fit or are there differences between facelift cars? Tabs etc...

-Were Bixenons the option when the car was new?

-Do all bixenons for the e46 come with the knob to change from LH to RH beam pattern? Has anyone done this already (fitted US lights)

-As I understand it the bixenons are HID on both dipped and main beam by means of a moving mirror. In this case what do the inner halogens do? Do they come on with main beam as well? If so is it possible / desirable to fit xenon upgrades to these to further boost light output?

-Is it a simple plug and play job? Is there a software change needed and also is the wiring compatible?

On a seperate point, I'm going to be buying an IPOD and I'm not sure whether to get the icelink or the bmw kit... I'm going to fit the ipod into the boot where the changer used to live so presumably the icelink is the easier install... I'm not bothered about not getting track titles as the changer doesn't do that now.

Any help advice gratefully received.

Cheers

Did you try to hard reboot ? Mine does that sometimes.

Press and hold play and the button next to it, can't remember.
Full details on www.ipodlounge.com

Had mine for about a year, had a few brain farts but still works and still get 8 hours out of the battery

Yup have tried all that.

The only thing one guy says is to open it up and disconnect the battery and reconnect. Only thing is I can't get the damn thing open, without distorying it.

I'll bring it next time, and you can give it a go bro.

When did you purchase the iPod? Is the warranty still valid? (extended warranty)

Unfortunately, if you open the iPod up, you kiss the warranty goodbye.

Have a '04 330ci cab Sport with sat nav and single CD changer, should I go for the Ipod connection from BMW and do the dealers do that here in the UK? or the IceLink from Denison.. what are the pros and cons?

The BMW kit is a no-go since you have NAV, your only choice is the ice>Link Plus. PM me and I will submit the name of our European Rep for your to contact.

1) I read in this forum that headlights' beams are aimed differently for LHD and RHD cars. do a search and u'll find ur answer. DIY on adjustments are also somewhere...
2) You ECU needs to be flashed by the dealer to cancel out the lamp out warning. alternatively u can just pull fuse 32 out, or can fit a relay. I suggest the fuse trick.
3) Xenons was an 545 quid option on 02' cars

sorry i can't reply to other q's.

if u want more UK guys to look at your question, register and post new thread here:

HI , just a quick one from the UK HID guru :P

Bi xenon systems have a motorised reflector behing the Dipped beam ( only ) lamps that slightly elevates the dipped beam when you select high beam , to assist the HALOGEN high beam inner lamps .
However , the majority of the high beam illumination is still supplied by the comparatively weak and yellow filament powered halogen high beam bulb .

If you want stunning high beam ilumination then fit one of our high beam HID systems to your high beam lamps and see the difference ...and yes it is road legal and you can still "flash " , only thing is you have to "flash " for at least one second with HID , to prevent undue wear from the xenon gas not fully igniting in the bulb ...a very small price I assure you .

If you like driving fast on unlit roads then this is a must ....just see how much faster AND safer you can hack about .

hope this helps

ps dont forget if fitting BMW xenon lamps to non xenon car , teh DME needs to be recoded by dealer to work with the new xenon lamps
