I have a '00 328CI - Factory HID. It may not even be related to the HID but this is how I discovered it.

I noticed that when I would turn my head lights on, the would click on and off intermittantly throught the whole period that I was running them. When they would "flicker" or click on and off real fast, I can hear a click from under the dash near the glove box.

Now, while inspecting this more closely, I have determined that the lights do not need to be on and running for me to hear the clicking noise.

Is the HID powered even when not in use? Do I have a bad relay, or more signifigant electrical issue?

All electrically is running fine, and I have no other symptoms to describe.

Let me know what you think. This is really annoying, but I do find that people tend to move out of my way easier now!

Bring it to a stealership to have it check. It might need to have it reprogrammed the ECU to stop the flickering issue. It could be the ballast. Are both headlights flickering or only one of them?? If only one of them, I was about to recommend to switch the ballast to one side to the other and see if the flickering issue moved to other headlight and if it is then its the ballast, if not then there's some other related things causing it.

They are both flickering at the same time. It is sporatic at best.

Did you mod your headlight from Halogen to OEM Xenon? Or You already OEM xenon on your headlight and all of sudden it flickers. If you just modded it then this is normal. Regardless either it was a mod or not, you really need to have the dealer to reprogram your ECU to resolve the flickering/strobbing effect. The cost of the flashing your ECU at the dealer should be about 50 - 60 bucks.

No they are still factory.

UPDATE!! I did just notice upon closer inspection under my hood that there was is a mouse nest that was hiding in a dark area of the compartment.

I am wondering now if a mouse has chewed a wire, causing the lose wire to ground, causing the relay to keep resetting?

Sound like a possibility?

This really sucks...

Yes!!! That was causing it. Check for damaged wires and through out the wire harness.
