View Full Version : Would you race any car that challenges you?

The reason I ask is that a brand new CLK55 AMG saw me pushing through a nice sweeper on the freeway tonight. I wasn't racing. I just maintained a 75 speed through a 45 curve and happened to pass the said car. As I expected, he came up fast behind me, then to my right side and would lunge forward several time to display the enormous torque his car has. I simply ignored him. What would you have done being the fantatics that you are? I'm truly curious... :hmm:

If I know I'm going to get smoke, I might do it from a stand still, but from a roll (like in your case) I'd let it go. Not worth the gas.

I'm sure the other car was as anxious as you to see whose got the better car. Just don't race the other car, just let him roll of like an idiot unsatisfied. There is nothing more stupid than looking like you jumped at the stoplight.

The police give the speeding ticket to the slower car, because they can catch you.

Ya. I found that out the hard way. My friend and I were cruisin fast in the middle of the night (nobody around) and he took off past 125. I slowed down to about 95. The officer told me he was trying to but couldn't catch my friend (1996 SL500).

Depends on the car and situation really. Most of the time I'd just let it go cause honestly I dun really care about those stupid "races". I prefer the track thank you very much :)

Me neither. I would let it go. I won't give his full satisfaction to show he can whip my ass. In other note, with my slow steptronic auto tranny 325i, what I have to prove, I can't beat no other fast car except 4 cylinder car (as long as they are not equipped with NOS). So sad

I agree. Ever since I've experienced open wheel driving at the Infineon Raceway, I was convinced that the track is the best place to be. Same driving conditions, same cars. It boils down to skills. But, sadly, I can't afford to continue the courses.

No, what would be the purpose? If his car could smoke yours then a race would only confirm the obvious. Let's say it was a Ford Probe with a Yuban Can muffler (happened to me), you would smoke him, this would only confirm the obvious. Just drive and enjoy your ride, you'll live longer and your parents will love you for it... :)

Thanks for the pleasant closing line. However, both my parents passed at very young ages. I, myself, am a parent now and do see your point clearly.

If I had your car...

I just remembered a friend of mine who has a 95 Corolla. It doesn't matter what car is next to him, he'll race. The image of his car is making laugh right now. :)

Lunging forward? That must've looked so ridiculous it was laughable. In fact, I know it is, because I've seen the same thing occur in person.

The CLK driver was probably just trying to see if he could force his monthly transmission and/or electronics failure early, because this time he had the dealer visit scheduled in advance.

I was wondering how my friend dropped the tranny on his 04 clk500 :hmm: i thought he just drove like a clownI hear interesting things from friends of mine in the field, particularly related to MB's corporate arrogance in addressing certain reoccuring problems. "It's a Mercedes, it doesn't break," and that is no exaggeration. I heard from one source that cancelling the free scheduled maintenance program was a cost cutting maneuver (that much is obvious) aimed primarily at reducing the impact of rising warranty costs.

Are they completely oblivious to plunging reliability ratings, or just unwilling to admit it? MB is apparently too concerned with churning out three new AMG models every week and breaking into every conceivable market to notice that their products are no longer held to nearly the same standard that they once were. At least BMW has the excuse that they never produced the most reliable cars in the world to begin with.

It gets worse the higher you go. You should see the repair manifest for my dad's friend's 2002 S600.

And sorry for the temporary threadjack. :)

Acura Type S / 4 banger would beat you!
