Update: Technik intercooler.....

Well we began the preliminary testing on our new intercooler and since we have had alot of interest on these babies I thought I would give you guys a small update.

1. No fitment issues or trimming was required to this bumper so that was a plus but every bumper is different and it may require some minor trimming. Most will be ok though.
2. The IC filled up the whole mouth, another plus.
3. Our biggest concern was pressure drop due to its massive size compared to the standard ASA IC. What do you know, NO pressure drop, Zero. another big plus.
4. Most likely due to better flow, the throttle response was noticably crisper, another plus.
5. We also strapped it up on the dyno and noticed a 10-11rwhp gain without any tuning or adjustments so we are confident that there is alot more in it. So thats another plus.
6. Prob the most important feature with this new unit is the cooling temps and intake temps, and guess what, roughly 60% cooler intake temps compared to the old IC. Temps went from 110 down to 50 after only 3-4 dyno pulls.

Tomorro will be the real test, we are heading out to willow springs bright and early to track it and see if it will hold up to Vincents track abuse.

Look forward to future updates..............

Here are a few before and after teaser pics

Thanks,
Anthony

No disrespect to anyone at Technik Engineering or here on the boards but my guess it will take longer than the now Feb'05 date that was most recently announced.
They are going to get slammed with orders....do they have injectors in stock? What is going to be the ECU flash turn around time?
The first cars are going to need some road time after tuning to see if there are any issues, I don't think I would be comfortable re-flashing my ECU and changing my injectors without some of the "tuned" cars getting some road time.
The ASAtronic is a POS, but at least I have something to play with to midly adjust my AFR, what happens if I start throwing codes, I have nothing to adjust. :dunno: We all know how radically adaptations affect car to car, what is to say my car/climate/fuel octane/setup (headers ect..)/iridium plugs will be compatible with the new software.
My honest guess....probably late spring. I have pushed this harder than any other member on this or rennsport's boards, and I applaud Samir/Technik Engineering for pushing this project forward at considerable time and cost.  But till some cars get some road time as far as I am concerned, it is just another item on my wish list.

Other announced released dates have long come and gone, we know this is a tedious and time consuming process and have talked to Samir personally, and with full confidence know that it is being done fully and completely.

I know the wait is painful. But that's the way things are.

Frankly, I don't see what's the hurry really. This is development at its ugliest moment. Nothing is off-the-shelves, plug-n-play. Every step has to be perfect and reliable. They just want to get everything right before confirming anything. I have visited the shop and I have seen them tune the cars. Any date line has a tentativeness to it.

That being said, if any, I should be the one being anxious and zealous about getting the s/w. I have track events to attend and I have a car to be pushed to the limits. If I am not worried, none of you should be. :P

PS: And for the last time, I am still running ASAtronic. Dyno tuned. No codes whatsoever. I keep getting emails/PMs with people suggesting that I have a fanciful s/w embedded somewhere in the ECU.

Omar,

Why do you think this is taking so long? Because we ARE roadtesting the cars. The Feb 05 date is still on for the IC upgrade. And based on what we've learned tuning the MS42 cars, tuning the MS43 cars won't take nearly as long. We're not BMW ///Motorsport with hundreds of engineers at our disposal. Unfortunately, we have to balance our time between tuning, working on other cars (this afterall does pay the bills), distribution, sales, building other project cars (Bimmerfest is coming up), etc. Plus it's not that easy to find local people who are willing to leave you their car for months at a time for tuning purposes.

If i remember correctly, you guys saw a 10hp gain from the new IC compaired to the old. Any idea what kind of gains you are expecting with the new software and injectors? In other words, will the larger intake be a real worthwhile upgrade or will that 10hp gain stay the same with the sw and injectors?

We've seen a gain of 30-40WHP during the tuning process on the MS42 cars (323/328). Will post the prelim results from the MS43 cars soon.

Sorry Samir, I misunderstood the date as the SW/Inj upgrade as well as the FMIC.
I understand you have a business to run and it is your discretion to run it as you see fit.
I would just prefer to have the SW and Inj upgrade then retrofit my FMIC. Any gains after the Stg 2 upgrade is just gravy and further pimpness. It is a bonus that they would be ready in the similar timeframe.
It is awesome to hear that the newly tuned cars are getting some "road" time
I could not even imagine the time nor the financial commitment it has taken to undergo this Stg 2 project. You have essentially taken over where ASA has left off and bailed on us. True the cars are running badly but they have the potential to run so much better and be finer tuned as a BMW deserves to be.
You aren't BMW///Motorsport with hundreds of engineers.....really :P
I am not sure why I am being singled out here all of the ASA owners are patiently anticipating this upgrade, most longer than others, and I would be willing to bet almost everyone that has one will take advantage of it. Maybe I have been more vocal than others as I have seen timelines come and go, no one is chastising you for not spending 24hours a day 7 days a week on this, no one would expect that.
My car is garaged till spring anyways, so i am eager but indifferent. I am more curious to see the results/feedback than getting it installed.

Omes.

I understand your position, however, I think ASA has gotten an unfair rap (just like GruppeM). There are plenty of cars that run just fine...ie. my Z4 has been running flawlessly, same for the ZHP and my 330. Furthermore, Vince's car is a shining example that the standard ASA kit DOES work just fine...even on a STEP. I can't think of a more vigorous "workout" to put a kit through than what Vince has done in 2004 @ 9 track events. This is constantly overlooked...why? I don't know.

Either way, this is irrelevant at this point...there are much better things to come. :shhh:

No arguments there....my car is also running extremely well and no complaints here. No one has posted as many dynos as I have an no other cars are putting the kind of power down that I am....I love my setup :) Most of my issues were related to a errors made in installation on my kit at first and after my headers were installed and sensors mismatched. I just know the potential and would love to take full advantage.
