Hi guys, I just wanna know if somebody out there has installed the new 8psi ESS SC. I need the dyno chart, since I am really curious how it compared to ASA SC.

CDesign: has anybody installed on 330?

Im not sure if anyone has yet...but I am waiting for someone to step up too :D

JimBOT, which ESS kit do you have? Do you have any pics of it?

bengwie - i am not aware of anyone with the new ESS kit for the E46. My brother (JimBOT) has the older version kit.

the ESS kit is based on an ASA supercharger..

you mean how does the ESS kit compare to the Technik kit...?

Yupe, what I mean is the difference between the ASA SKI kit and ESS SC kit. I wonder why there is nobody out there who installed this ESS 8psi kits, I wanna install either one but I wanna know the reviews from other users first.

ASA has been working good, but thekubiaks regretted his ESS SC relative to AA and ASA. But his kit is not ASA based, which is currently used right now in ESS kit.

I am looking at both the ASA and the ESS 8psi kit for my 2004 330ci I have the performance package. I am leaning towards the ASA kit with the new FMIC since preliminary tests are looking really good. The pioneer in me wants to try out the new ESS ASA based kit... downside is the ECU programming.

EDIT: thekubiaks finally got resolution for his problem, it was heat soak related. Search for his thread, it is now ok.. IMO ESS support is pretty far away, with the ASA kit support is relatively local for me.

The ESS ASA based kit does have ECU re-programming. You need to send the DME back to Europe and have them flash it.

You could probably get technik's new front mount to work with the ess kit :dunno:

It would require custom piping imho, will you guys credit back for the unused ESS FMIC? I mean, will they ship a kit without one and credit the $$ back?

If the ESS kit uses the same IC and piping found in the standard ASA kits our new FMIC should bolt right up.

If they use the same piping and compressor what is the difference between the 2 kits? Software?

Probably software and the way they design in the intake duct. At least, that is what I see. Also, ESS is located in Europe. Technik Engineering is located right in California. :)

According to the pictures we've seen the only difference between the ASA and the ESS/ASA is the ECU and injector package, intake plumbing from the air filter to the SC but we havn't seen the kit installed in person yet.

True. :)

Either way, ESS or ASA, you are making more power than OEM. You can't go there.

So which way should I go then? ASA or ESS, they both have the same price...

Sorry to say, but personal preference or just flip a coin. :dunno:

I'd go ASA since there customer support is  now if you were out of the US then it would be a tough decision to make. But in the end its the same kit, track proven and very reliable.. cant go wrong with either of them.

Why no software for ASA kit? Manual air / fuel mixture control? NE1 have a photo of both kits?

I wouldn't go so far as to say the problem was solved but I think the heat soak issue is a major player in the horsepower issue. From my experiences and testing, a FMIC is really a necessity with a S/C. In the winter when the air is very cold, the car will run much stronger but in the summer it takes a big performance hit. Now if I can just figure out how to get a liquid oxygen truck to stay ahead of me and blast cold air down my intake to keep the S/C output cooled in the summer, I'll have this situation rectified, otherwise, a FMIC will help. YMMV :str8pimpi

My bad, I thought your power issue was resolved, it may have only been solved. Have you dyno'd in the "cold" yet?

No luck on the cold weather dyno yet. My options are two indoor mustang dyno's and one outdoor dynojet dyno. I haven't been able to get the Dynojet guy to crack the ice and snow off of the tarp covering it. The indoor dyno's won't give me the cold air I'm looking for to evaluate the heat soak issue. I will definitely post dyno results (run # 6 :yikes: ) as soon as I have them. I too am eager to see a dyno sheet from the new ESS S/C design. It might be a contender if they include a FMIC and some aggressive software..

Once they post the dyno chart on the website, I would be able to determine which path I should go, so do other people who are waiting for the chart I believe.

Is it even possible to install a FMIC for the old ESS SC unit? Could it be because the Vortech is bigger than the ASA and takes too much space? I may explore this possibility in the future. So far I replaced the flex hose connecting to the air filter with a custom bend pipe.

How did you make the custom bend pipe, I was thinking of doing that, THANKS

Some of the e46 guys have done a fmic with their vortech unit so I'm sure it's a possibility for us too. Here are some interesting pics...

I have an intercooler laying around so I'm going to try to experiment one of these days

Where can I buy one of this kit? It will be interesting to know how much it will cost. I am sure we can buy the FMIC from the ASA guys when they upgrade to the larger intercooler. The link shows an e36 M3?

yes the link is for an e36 m3. I think that intercooler costs around $2000 with all the piping :wow:

I went to a muffler shop and had them custom bend me a piece of 3" tube. To make it fit properly, I also used a 45 degree elbow hose.

If you really want to do this, remove your headlight before going to the muffler shop so they can field fit it for you. It tooks the guy several tries before we are happy with the outcome. I can tell you it wasn't easy.
