Turbocharged Z4 3.0L 365 hp

Hi,

I am new to the forum and also very excited. My Z4 3,0L is getting turbocharged this week.

Unfortunately I am getting 312 hp due to the automatic transmission. :cry: Manuel tranny equipped Z4 3,0L made 365 hp with the turbo kit. I jealos that kit. :rolleyes:

Anyone here with either supercharger or turbocharger on his Z4 3,0L? The Chief at DA Motorsport said the maximum limit is 4,5 psi on automatic gearboxes, what do you think? Another 3,30ci here made 312 hp with auto tranny with exactly the same turbocharger kit and he was thinking about putting a second hand 5,40i auto transmission. I am not that brave....

A year ago when I bought the Z4, I was hesitating for the installation of a rear muffler. Now, can't believe it. Turboed Z4 3,0L..... :woot: Will post pictures and dyno results soon. My baby softtop and a Z3 2,2L are under opeartion and will be finished at the same time.

I will post pics as soon as the installation is finished and the software is programmed. W e will have also videos. I can barely sleep. I drove a friend's Subaru Impreza STI and it has 265 hp. My babay will make 312 hp. I can play with the back with the added power. I want to have some rel power slides where the back of the softtop will try to catch the shark style front :woot:

I do not think that the turbo will be visible once we open the hood. We must take pics from the bottom side of the shark. (shark is what I name my Z4). This will be the first "mass produced" M54 3,0L turbocharger kit.

At the beginning DA is using Unichip as a piggyback system. I was told by them that they will have a superior option by May 2005. Have no idea what that option is.

There is one thing that makes me sad :bawling: Options list.....

They showed me an options list where there is a turbo timer, boost controller, aluminium intake manifold. I wish I can buy these now, but have to save money for the brake kit. :P

The DA people are very busy with supercharging some M3s and my baby softtop is like a child between adults. When I look at my turbo's size and the M3's turbo size, I say mannn mine is a baby turbo. Does size matter ? ? ? :thumbup:

I don't think it matters for now since this is DA's first production turbo kits for the E46 and the E85. So I am sure in the near future they will have a bigger turbo avail. If I were you, I would be VERY happy for the kind of HP that you are getting. =) COngrats man. Pls do show me pics and videos!!!

I think with the unichip all you can tune is fuel, eventually timing and a few other options will be available.

I have the ASA Kit and I installed it myself :yikes:

Trends and Gadgets, DA Motorsport is also ASA's dealer but the guys are as I call "turbo freaks". There are at least 20-25 Garrett turbochargers on their shelves. I met a 3,20i owner at DA facility with SK 2 kit and drove the ASA Infinitas supercharghed 3,20i. The car has a 243 hp dyno sheet. It was fine but after my 231 hp, lighter then the E46 chasis Z4, it did not make fun :craig:

Garrettf, the system consists of a garrett turbocharger. The basic kit has a non-ball bearing garrett. Ball bearing was an option but I wanted to save a couple of bucks. Garrett turbo is not a ready on the shelf unit. These guys get the turbo built according to their specifications. Internal wastegated. What I was told is a ready on the shelf unit would not match the engine. Full boost should come early.... :woot:

Turbo exhaust manifold is cast iron, log style. There is wrapping on all over the exhaust manifold. This is for keeping the heat in the exhaust manifold to save the under hood life :P I was afaraid of the extra heat that the turbo could produce but got relaxed. As option there is ceramic coating for the exhaust manifold, which is for heat insulation. I did not go for it.

Of course, down pipe. Do not know the width of it.
Intercooler system of air to air. The time taking part of the kit is the piping of intercooler, stainless steel pipes are welded and this is hand made. The pipes are polished at the end.

Unichip piggyback system. Clamps, hoses, loud or silent blow off valves. I chose the silent one, my softtop baby is an "elegant" roadster. Don't wan't to be ear catching every time I shift, like the Mitsubishi EVOs :yikes:
Air intake system and some more....

I am sure the kit will be available for USA too. I heard that they have cast 100 pieces of the exhaust manifold. I saw lots of manifolds at the shop. But there may be a difference for the US kits.

As the kit is completed we will have all the pics, dyno runs and mpegs. I know and saw that DA Motorsport has at least 100 cast iron exhaust manifolds. They are producing this 3,0L turbo kit for all the E46, E39, E85, X3 and X5. So it will be the first mass produced turbooo kit for the 3,0L engine.

that's a nice HP increase :) I love the way the Z4 looks and with that kind of juice... man... sweet ride.

But sometimes i wonder why bother with all that extra expense. I mean... you can easily get a 100 HP gain just by putting this "stick" on mod to your rear window :lmao: :

Today I went to a BOSCH dyno. Results are:

149,5 rwhp @ 5980 rpm. What do you say? Chief Mert wanted to see before and after results of my baby softtop.

I have a supersprint rear box.

The instalaltion is starting on friday as we are waiting for the Garrrreeetttt. :woot: :woot:

There are 6 other Bimmers waiting for the kit here. But I have good news: The DA Motorsport team is preparing a plan for turbocharging the

E46 M 3 :yikes:

They will use forged connecting rods and forged pistons at every stage. Even 7 psi stage 1 will have the forged internals. I saw them discussing the project with the E46 M3 owner. As E46 M3s had engine failure they will use forged bottom end. This is going to be a mass produced kit also.

You see mine and turbo kits put on a stock motor. You on the other hand pretty much have a fully built motor you can crank up the boost more. Plus you should be able to go higher than 12 psi on a fully built motor. If my motor could handle it we will push 12 psi once my management comes in and I tune it.

well your lucky cuz no one here state side will turbo charge any of our cars and then cover them with a warrenty


and gilb3rt yeah my engine can handle much much more then 12psi but i tuned it to that for daily driving, thats my low boost settinon my boost controller and when i take it down to the track i just flip the switch and turn it up to 30psi for racing :)

it is really fun but i have only done it once becuase i just took out my pistons and rods again becuase they were not very good quality so i am trying to find some that are stronger
30psi is also on regular pump gas but always with meth injection
i only use pump gas in my car but if i know i am going to take it to a track or soemthing then i will empty my tank and fill it up with some race gas
i am also changing out my headgasket to a custom one that is 8.5:1 compression so that everyhting is ok and doesnt go boom

We have not received a E46 so far. When a E46 comes to our facility we will turbocharge it. I do not know when this will happen.
