Hey guys
I have an 01 330i with the upgraded 10 speaker HK system with the dolby sound switch. I want to add a sub for more bass. Is it hard to install an amp and sub in the car at an audio shop. In my previous bmw they did a really crappy job and it affected the trim inside.
thanks

They shouldn't have to touch your interior if you got a HK system. All they have to do is use some LOC like an SVEN2 at the factory amp location in the trunk.

LOC=Line Output Converter This will either convert the signal before or after your factory amp to RCAs which will plug into the new sub amp. Your car audio shop should know what this is. If they don't I'd suggest you look elsewhere! There's no way the factory sub amp will be strong enough to power your new sub(s). What kind of subs are you planning on adding? Make sure your amp is enough to power the subs.

Heya, I'm new to the forums, but I just picked up a 325ci. I bought the JL Audio stealthboxes. They are two 8" subs that blend in perfectly. I bought a JL Audio 500/5 amp. That runs my subs, and all my HK interiors. It isnt like a real thumping bass, but its extremely loud and very very clear. I love it

I just got a 2001 330ci and my driver side tweeter and mid range is blown...
The question is can I replace these speakers with higher end component speakers? Polk Audio or Infinity... The install shop says I have to replace the head unit and speakers because of the amplified system. Are the speakers 8 ohm or 4 ohm like regular car speakers?
Please advise
Ben

and i wouldnt go with polk or infinity, some nice boston acoustics or mb quarts would be worth it. I will try and post pics of my system sometime soon. the install was awesome and walking past my car with the trunk open you cant see a thing. my amp is mounted where the factory sub was, so i didnt lose a drop of trunk space.

How much did the setup with the stealthboxes cost you total, with installation?

i got the stealthboxes for 325, the amp was 470 (on ebay, retails for ike 800-900) and install cost me 200. I had a friend do the intall because i wasn't positive how to run the amp using the factory radio. the sound that the HK speakers puts out with the 500/5 is so crisp and loud, i definitely recommend it. the only con about it all is the factory rear deck speakers have to be removed. and if you dont have folding rear seats a few holes need to be drilled to install the 8's

I think this is the cheapest way to do it haha. It sounds pretty good. I just used speaker level input into the amp from the HK subs in the trunk.

If that is true, the you really should get out more. :P
On a serious note. If you don't want a woffer box in the trunk go stealth boxes. Howver, a small box with a single 10 or 12 firing thru the skipass would give you good sound. If you want to make the trunk rattle, just get a pre-built sub and box, and place the amp inside the spare or mount it to the package shelf.
I think 300 for a decent sub and amp is wishful thinking. Save up a few more benajamins and get something decent. Just my $0.02.
