I want one. I don't want to do it myself. I can get the part with the BMW CCA discount for about $168, but my dealer wants $300 for labor. What are people paying? FWIW, I have the convertible -- don't know if that's easier or harder.

Thanks!

It takes them 1 hour for them to install, but they will tell 2 hours. So $300 seems overly high. We don't call them "Stealerships" for nothing. See if you can talk them down to $100-$150 or whatever you expect to pay. Basically it's bolted on since your car is already pre-wired. Then they activate and test it.

They are charging you like 4 hours labor :bawling:

Go to another dealer.

And a convertible should involve less parts to install (for one, you do not have the sensors in the ceiling.)

When I got my 330i brand new, the dealer did jack me for full MSRP ($450) + 1 or 2 hours installation.

Knowing better this time around, I ordered the alarm myself and may DIY or ask them how much labor for them to install it.

Where do you get a CCA discount with parts?
That price is quite good, even compared to mail order.

Just do it yourself and get your dealer to turn it on for nominal fee (I wouldn't pay more than 1/2 hour labor for the programming). With the convertible it's even easier if we're talking the basic alarm (siren under the hood, and tilt sensor in the trunk - 2 components total).

Note the "euro" convertible alarm is now available stateside - it has interior motion sensors. The installation as I understand it is more involved (2 sensors). I'd get this version if I was doing it again.

According to circlebmw.com, the cabrio alarm kit with motion sensor is p/n 65730391495 $375. You'll also need center console housing in the correct color.

I may have an extra center console housing (black) I won't need in a few weeks.

Retail for the compatible alarm on my car (65 60 0 027 381) is $187. CCA discount is 10% or 20% off depending where you go.

Guys, I don't want to do it myself. I just want to know what people pay when they pay the stealership.

Do it yourself. Then get it activated. I don't see what the big deal is.

Only 0.5 hour to activate the alarm, if they wanna charge more, tell them "Don't try to rip my pocket off." But for the whole installation, you'll be looking at $500 usually, I don't know how cheap some people here paid, but that's what I paid long time ago for my 330i.

$300 is the steal of the steal. :thumbdwn: Try some other dealers. When I had my dealer to install an alarm on my old 330Ci they charged me $100.

I just ordered from pacific and it is $237.90. A few dollars more at bavauto. But I'm talking about 65-73-9-416-520.

It makes sense for the CCA discount, but don't know any dealers/vendors that honor this, specially on mail order.

I don't feel too bad, it's still not the $450 that a local dealer charged for it the first time around.

very easy install, even on the verts

just buy it however you want
install it, then schedule a time for the dealer to activate it
