My ESS Vortech came with a 8psi pulley..anyone know if this is too much boost to run on my ride without a IC.. :dunno: (Can't afford M52TU Kaboom..)

Not trying to be a wise guy but, what makes you think that you have an 8 PSI pulley?? If ESS is now shipping 8 PSI pulleys with the APPROPRIATE 8 PSI software for the Vortech S/C, then you should be fine, they are very conservative. I haven't heard of them doing this so you might email them or call to confirm. As for the intercooler, if you can get 93 octane and the outside temps are under about 80F, you should be fine. I ran the ESS Vortech for over 2 years in temperatures up to 100F and never had a problem with pinging (although an intercooler would have been nice).

No offense taken.. the seller tells me he was running 8psi boost..so I assume it is running a 8 psi pulley.. I maybe mistaken and it is the software that is adjustable from 5-8 psi?? anyone know.. I always run 94 here in Toronto..so I should be good as far as gas..

Its the pulley that determines the psi, but you usually need software to back it up.

8psi is kinda high though for a kit w/no heat exchanger, i would lower the boost or get an aftercooler made to be on the safe side

A guy I know just put an the ESS intercooler on his 01' 330i w/ ESS Vortech S/C. I am waiting for the dyno sheet, it should be interesting to see what difference an intercooler will make. I'll post it.

Well seller tells me he used a 8psi pulley on his 325..so I'm guessing it's correct.. have to measure when it arrives I suppose.. I will be doing a IC eventually for sure.. here's his info from seller..i think it's 8 psi :dunno:

"I was running an 8 psi pulley so the horsepower was probably at 300hp on my 325i.. Hans@ESS informed me software is adjustable from 5-9 psi on V2SQ system..upto you.."

I would not run more than 6.5 max without a heat exchanger.
Intake temps will be way too high at 8psi. Higher intake temps = retarted timing = less power (to prevent detonation). If you are going to do that, I wouldn't put anything less than 93 Octane (R+M/2 Method) in the car, 100 octane if you want to be safe (6.50 a gallon, ouch!)

Right now I'm running 9.5 with an intercooler, custom software, and injectors.

Just my thoughts....
