Question for the BMW/IBUS guys.
What are u going to do to over come the shity reception of the D-link radio?
--->>> I was wondering if u could leave the stock radio connected (in the glove box), and run both the radio (as connected OEM) and the carputer (via sound card out wires) to the amp. When reception sux, u simply mute the carputer and use the factory radio with your steering wheel buttons.
But I am not sure if the steering wheel buttons will send commands to both (carputer through IBUS chip, and stock radio as OEM normal) simultainiously. ?????
What do u guys think?

Since both the radio and carputer are only receiving I-bus commands, I don't see why it wouldn't work with the steering wheel command for both.
As far as the audio. You CAN NOT tie outputs together (carputer + factory radio), so you would have to come up with something to switch wiring to the speakers for each unit to isolate them.

Pardon my ignorance...but why? I would turn of one to use the other....no go? please explain (the more detail the better)?

You cannot connect outputs together, even if one device is turned off. If you really want to do this without running the risk of smoking outputs, you would have to cut the wires going from the factory head unit to the amplifier and use a relay on each wire (4 wires for front and 4 wires for rear). This is a total of 8 relays (plus probably an extra one for switching the "relay array").
It is not hard to do, but it probably woudn't be fun finding a place to hide all those wires/relays.

gotcha. Thanks for the info. I will bear that in mind. Hopefuly the guys at mp3car will finish developing that great computer radio they have been working on and save me the headache.
