View Full Version : Valentine One Groupbuy?

I was wondering if anyone has tried to do a groupbuy from Valetine 1. I recently got clocked at 92 and the ticket was $350 + $35 surcharge = $385 total. I could've bought a Valetine One for $15 more.

Anyways I know we all speed and I think this is a great radar detector. I dun wanna get into the X50 vs V1 war, but I was wondering if anyone wants to try to get a groupbuy for this. :dunno:

You can't do GB's on the V1. You can only purchase it from their site or you can purchase a used one on ebay or on the classifies here.

I would agree more. It's worth of an investment. Like you said for $15 more, you could have bought a V1 and eventually it would paid itself up. In regards to GB, I don't think that the company (Valentine One) will honor any group buy unless Modbargain could talked them into it.

I know someone who has a 330i and sped all the time with no radar. I warned him and after 3 tickets and $1500+ in fines and lawyer fees, he can't afford to get one now. A radar is worth the insurance as well as being alert about your surroundings too. I dont think a GB is possible because the V1 manufacture dosent deal with distribution channels. I have a V1 for 7 yrs and love it. Just my two cents. :smokin:

May just be me, but all of my tickets have been from laser guns, and a V1 isn't going to help with that...

If you want a V1 for less than MSRP, call them... they occassionally have refurbished or reconditioned models at a lower price.

Just called and you can get a refurb'd one for 350 and shipping is about 8 for ground so around 360 total. I would rather buy one that never had issues on ebay myself. Just my .02

I just noticed on ebay a 1.7 version. I went to the valentine one website and priced out what the upgrade to 1.8 would be and it was $189. Freaking nuts......

Wish we could help, but everybody is right... the only way to purchase the V1 is direct from the source, and they don't ever do discounts on the brand new units.

That's why I say protest those nitches and get yourself an escort 8500 x50 and try it for thirty days, then return it if you don't like it

You'd rather buy a used one with no warranty from a stranger on ebay... rather than a full-warranty unit from the manufacturer, where the only difference is the case of the unit once belonged to someone else? I must be missing something.

Protest them for making the best product and avoiding a reseller network that plays games with prices and may have nonexistent customer support, as is the case with most electronics resellers?

If it's not a Valentine One, it's just a box with flashing lights.

Just buy a new one and watch how many times it'll save you. And if you ever decide to sell it, it holds its resale value pretty damn good.

Rob:

What you say is true, a warranty is certainly good to have...point take.

About the protest, I was just throwing that out there as a suggestion. We all know both products are very similar with the exception of a few features. Performance is very similar. The truth is V1 as a company has stood their ground with pricing and great marketing as well as top notch research in their field. The fact they have never backed down from their pricing is why you don't see V1's going for much cheaper than retail even on ebay. I will not lie and say I don't want a V1, if I could afford one right now I certainly would love to test them both in my car at the same time and put this question to rest.

Oh and maybe my mentality about reconditioned and refurbished is off but to me that's similar to a salvage title on a car, yeah you get a warranty but eventually it expires. Not saying ebay is safe by no means.

Call the guys at Valentine One and ask if they have any refurbished units. A factor refurbished or reconditioned unit with a warranty is just as good as a new one.

What does a post about pacing (or a lying traffic officer) have to do with radar?

About the protest, I was just throwing that out there as a suggestion. We all know both products are very similar with the exception of a few features. Performance is very similar.

We know that? How do we know that?

A Sears Roadhandler tire is "very similar" to a Michelin Pilot Sport, isn't it? Why don't we all have Roadhandlers on our BMWs? There are always differences, and discerning quality is why we've all chosen BMWs instead of Hyundais.

The truth is V1 as a company has stood their ground with pricing and great marketing as well as top notch research in their field.

I think their "marketing" is technology-based... the value of the product "does the talking", which is why every other less detector is marketed in comparison to the V1. Think that through and you realize the "ideal" unit is easy to figure out.

... I certainly would love to test them both in my car at the same time and put this question to rest.

Ah, but you can't do that... most other detectors leak microwave radiation that sets off other detectors. You can't have them both on at the same time in the same car and get accurate results.

My link to the other thread is meant to be a lesson to all radar owners that radar is not armor (sp), regardless of brand.

All other items = point taken. Some disagreeable but never the less point taken.

I have the V1. It helped me several times, but once the cop shot the laser, you're screwed. No way out. My V1 only beeps sharply when the laser hit me. I think it's better to buy a radar jammer or something. It should be more effective.

I have owned both a v1 and an x50.

Honestly, after driving with the v1, I can't adjust to any other radar. I love them damn' arrows! The x50 is a traditional styled radar, it beeps, shows you which band its picking up, and then shows the strength of the signal. The v1 does the same, but also shows you where the signal is coming from. On my friends older 1.8 w/o pop, it takes a while for the arrows to change direction once you pass where the signal is coming from, but on my dad's 1.8 w/ pop, it changes instantly. My dad just purchased a 1.8 w/ pop after driving with my v1. He WAS using an x50, which I just recently sold to another fanatic, KPENG.

I'm pretty happy with the X50. To me, most of the time, only Ka band is a cop. And when that happens, I slow down regardless. I don't need to know where they are.

True, but to me, it's also important to know where they are and how many are there on the road. So the sense of suprises and the curiosity of where they are coming from is minimal.

whats the range on the V1? does the jammer have a detector and a jammer? so unless your getting shot w/ laser will it help? i want to get one also but 400+ is a big investment so i want the right thing

I have a v1 and it's extremely helpful in avoiding cops using radar. Like other people say, the v1 (or any other detector) is useless against laser if you're speeding. I recently got zapped with laser. There's no way out of it except not speeding in the first place.

The v1 will pay itself off easily if you do lots of highway driving. If you're from California, think I-5 between LA and Bay Area. Speeding tickets within the city tend to be not as pricey (unless you're REALLY pushing it). Also, I've only noticed cops using laser within the city.

I think the biggest thing to ask yourself is if you'll be doing lots of highway driving.

Forgot to mention, though I am biased towards the v1, I seem to think that the passport may have the edge over the v1 in the range category.

I think either Autoweek or Car & Driver did a test on this...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember v1 came out on top in terms of range.
