How to get to Dubai

More than 70 worldwide airlines fly to Dubai everyday. Dubai takes less than 8 hours for tourists coming from Europe and the Far East. It has the world's biggest airport where tourists from all over the world meet. Reaching Dubai hospitality is a common practice between everyone. Therefore, Immigrations are well organized in Dubai as well as its customs.


Shopping in Dubai

One of Dubai’s greatest visitor attractions is its outstanding shopping. The city has numerous shopping tourists from countries within the area and from Eastern Europe, Africa and India. Dubai's trade prices are reasonable and the range of products available is nearly more than enough. One advantage of shopping in Dubai is that it is free of tax and many top brand-name goods are cheaper in Dubai than in the countries of their origin. Three main places for shopping in the city are: shopping malls, souks and the shopping streets or areas. In addition to the Souks and shopping malls, there are many high-class department stores and boutiques throughout the city. Dubai's shopping malls are generally Western in style, with a mixture of shops and well-known trade names under one roof. Souks are very common in the Emirates and tend to be good places to buy gold, fabrics, electronics and traditional Arabic art. Shopping areas include lots of individual shops that usually sell similar items, like western clothing, accessories, shoes, and a lot more. In addition to the malls, souk and shopping streets, Dubai Duty Free at the airport is a great place for last-minute shopping. It has won many awards as one of the best duty-free in the world.

The most active shopping malls in Dubai are City Centre, Wafi City, Burjuman, The Souk at Madinat Jumeira, and the Gold Souk.

City Centre

Deira City Centre is a main and an active mall where most of the shopping takes place. It was built in 1995 and it consisted of two stories. As each year passed by it got bigger and developed more shops and entertainments. Now, City Centre is a huge three story shopping mall and has over 320 stores from house hold accessories to top brand clothing. In addition, City Centre now has a 12 huge screening movie theatre. It even has a huge entertainment court called "Magic Planet" included with a food court with a big range of restaurants.

Wafi City

Wafi is known as Dubai's most stylish shopping mall. It is somehow very attractive for tourists because of its ancient Egyptian interior and exterior decor. Wafi has over 225 stores from all kind of products like jewelry, home interior, and famous clothing. In addition, it is famous for its leisure entertainment and dining.

Burjuman

Burjuman is a well known old shopping mall that was renewed in 2004. Now with the new extension Burjuman has over 305 shopping stores including famous designer stores such as Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton, and the famous department store Saks Fifth Avenue and many more. In Burjuman there are many famous foreign restaurants and café's.

The Souk

The Souk is located at Madinat Jumeira which is a part of Mina AlSalam hotel at the end of Jumeira beach road. This is a recent built shopping mall which is designed and decorated in a very old traditional market place of Dubai. Most of the stores sell old antiques and traditional art works.

Gold Souk

Dubai is famous with its huge Gold Souk where it's located in the old part of Dubai and that is one main reason why Dubai is called "The City of Gold". Everyday the Gold Souk is filled with tourists from different nations all over the world. There are over 300 Gold stores where everyone can find whatever they are looking for due to the big jewelry range available at the Gold Souk.


Hotels

World class hotels are all over Dubai. As soon as tourists reach the city, they are warmly welcomed by employees in their luxurious hotels. The famous luxury hotels are located on Sheikh Zayed Road and Jumeira Beach road. All luxury hotels have great facilities for dining, sports, spa's, entertainment places, and big halls for weddings and such occasions. All hotels provide many useful tours for the tourists. In addition, they also offer a big range of multi-cultural five star restaurants. All luxurious hotels a lifestyle of luxury and comfort are not only in five star hotels, but also at Burj Al Arab, the only seven star hotel in the world.

Burj Al Arab

Burj al Arab constructed in 1999 and owned by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum is known as the best hotel in the world. Its height is 321 meters and is located at Dubai coastline. What makes this hotel a unique one is that your own transport drives you in a Rolls Royce to the hotel. Not only that, but also every floor has a private reception desk on and a group of well-trained workers whom offer 24 hours service. While every room at the hotel is made out of pure gold.



Bab Al Shams

A hotel was built in the end of 2004 that is called "Bab Al Shams" which is located in the centre of the desert close to the horse racing track, it was built specially for people who participate in horse races.


Mina Al Salam

Mina Al Salam is a hotel that was built in the beginning of 2004. It’s a very common place that tourists visit because it’s a traditional architectural building built in a modern way. In this hotel the people who are staying at the hotel are taken to their rooms through the Abra (Traditional Boat). This is because the rooms are separated from the main reception and the restaurants by a man-made river.


Horse Racing

Dubai has a wide range of sports like the famous horse racing. Dubai now is the centre of horse training and horse breeding. Godolphin is one of the most famous horse racing that happens in Dubai and is well known by everyone. Many horse endurance racing occurs in Dubai where most of the Sheikhs and their sons join the race. During a horse race or an endurance race there are over 20,000 fans watching. In addition, the biggest and most fabulous track is the Nadd Al Shiba horse racing track.


Camel Riding

Camel riding is a very attractive activity to the tourists from non Arabic countries because camels are important symbols of the old tradition of the United Arab Emirates. Camel riding is available almost everywhere in Dubai. For example in the desert safaris, heritage villages, the global village, and also some hotels offer camel riding too. Camel riding is very cheap in Dubai it is around 10 to 20 Dirhams a ride. This is because camels are easily found in Dubai and the breeding occurs in Dubai while camel riding in non Arabic countries if offered is very expensive because camels are not common and not easily found. Some hotels also give camel riding lessons for tourists. Also, camel riding is loved by tourists from non Arabic countries.

Annual Festivals

Each year Dubai performs two events. Dubai Shopping festival and Dubai Summer Surprises. The shopping Festival takes place in January and February, while the summer surprises take place from the beginning of the summer, which is June, until the end of August. During both festivals, shops have special offers and many discounted prices. Right now, Dubai is celebrating the end of a whole decade of the successful Dubai Shopping Festival. Many events take place during the spectacular festivals held each year. The Global Village is one of the amusement parks that occur within the festival. During the festival, the city’s streets are always live and the sky is always enlightened by the amazing fire works. Al Riggah road, is also one of the well known roads that is filled with fun rides, restaurants and nonstop shows.


Global Village

Global Village which is part of Dubai shopping festival contains adventurous fun rides along with a collection of almost all of the countries worldwide gathered in one huge village. Each small village includes its own homeland products to be sold. Besides the rides and shopping, many interesting shows along with traditional and nontraditional dances take place at the global village as well. Each village that represents its country provides its own heritage dances and shows. You can also enjoy the delicious food in a variety of restaurants from all over the world in the food court area or in some of the villages that offer their own traditional food. Global Village also offers V.I.P cards that for V.I.P people and families. This card is used to get into the V.I.P parking at Global village without getting into the huge traffic. Every night there is a raffle draw that takes place in the global village as well. Visitors can win Gold or a Nissan car. In addition in Global Village there is a heritage dance competition every week and the 1st place best dancer out of all is gifted with a Volkswagen car and 30,000 Dirhams while the 2nd place receive 15,000 Dirhams and finally the 3rd place receives 5,000 Dirhams.


Dubai Summer Surprises

Dubai Summer Surprises is a successful event that started in summer 1998. During the Summer Surprises malls offer hundreds of entertainment activities, events, and surprise for tourists especially for children. These events include cartoon characters that surprise kids, flowers that shower the malls and the people, and arts and coloring competitions for children's. The children are also given some enthusiasm with back to school surprises. In addition the malls offer raffle draws to win a million Dirhams and 1 kilogram of gold.


Snow City

Dubai has offered snow in the summer at the Snow City. This place was especially made for the kids to experience the snow in a hot summer. Kids at Snow City can play with snow in different ways such as sledge slides, ice lake train, ice carving, ice skating, skiing, and at last throwing snow balls at each other.


Modhesh Fun City

Modhesh is a cartoon character created in Dubai which kids love. Modhesh Fun City started in the summer of 2000. The Fun City is located at the Dubai airport hall. This place is made for children and kids to have fun and learn at the same time. The place includes fun rides for children while it also has a corner for learning, face painting, dancing, meeting cartoon characters, creating sand figures, drawing, and coloring. Also, there is a variety of fast food restaurants which kids like. There is a small Modhesh shopping store at the Fun City where children can purchase different products of Modhesh such as mugs, pens, copybooks, bags, stickers, Modhesh teddy bears, and many other products.


Heritage and Diving Village

Next to the Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum's palace is the Heritage village which includes the Diving village as well. It offers many amazing visions of Dubai's past. These villages attract tourist's attention because of the amazing traditional architecture, pearl diving, and the fantastic Abras. These villages also include a Bedouin tent village which is located in a corner that offers traditional dances, souvenirs, and old women cooking traditional Arabic food.

Traditional Architecture

The very old palace of Sheikh Saeed is an excellent example of traditional architecture because of the rooms built around the central courtyard, and its tall wind-towers. These towers were built to keep the rooms cool. The palace is a museum now for tourists to visit and discover how the Sheikh's and Arabs lived in the past. During the festivals the palace attracts more than 15,000 tourists from all over the world. Dubai Museum (Al Fahidi Fort) is another big example of traditional architecture where tourists can follow the life time story of Dubai, its culture and its people. In addition, The Bastakiya area is a very old and good example of traditional architecture in Dubai, where there are many hallways which include a lot of wind towers.

Pearl Diving

Since old times pearl diving has been one of the most important activities in Dubai. A huge number of men participated in pearl diving during the hot summer. Around 1200 pearling boats where available at the beginning of the 20th century, where each boat carried around 18 passengers. Due to these calculations 22 thousand men were pearl diving in the summer. Risking their lives for pearl diving was worth it. Dubai's economy doesn’t depend on pearl diving anymore like they did in the past.

Abras

There is an easy and fun way to pass the Dubai creek is through the Abra. Abra is a traditional wooden hand made small boat that was used to for transportation in the old times it is still used now and its also one of the fun activities for the tourists. The Abra transports people from one side of the creek to the other. The Abra's are sometime used for wholesale businesses to transport products from one side of Dubai to the other side.


Wild Wadi

Wild Wadi is one of the famous and largest amusement water parks in the world. If your location is at the city centre in Dubai then it will just take you 20 minutes to Wild Wadi Water Park. Families enjoy their time at Wild Wadi because the park provides their needs for a whole day. Wild Wadi has many water activities and games, these include the soaring cliffs, hidden lagoons, swimming holes, tidal pools, and one of the best and longest water slides. This park is just a short walk from the amazing Jumeira Beach resorts. Shower rooms, locker rooms, and other changing facilities are available. Lockers are given for everyone who pays extra for locker so they can put their valuable stuff such as mobiles, wallets, and other valuable stuff. If you're staying at the Jumeira Beach resorts then your entrance is for free while towels and locker rental are available at lower rates.

Desert Safaris

A tourist who travels to Dubai doesn’t complete his journey in Dubai without going for a Desert Safari. All travel agencies include Desert Safaris in their traveling package. Tourists are always taken to the desert by a four-wheel drive land cruiser where they experience one of the best activities in Dubai. The tourists can enjoy a half day ride, full day ride, or an overnight stay. For overnight stays the tour company provides tents for sleeping, food, and a belly dancer. Also, the Desert Safari tour includes Dune driving, Wadi driving, and Sand Skiing.

Dune Driving

Dune driving in sand is an amazing adventure. This drive is a roller coaster-like ride. Most of the tour companies provide courses in sand driving where they can experience it with a four wheel drive car, while the experts go along with them for instructions. The people who really far away into the desert they can experience and discover all the desert species such as foxes, camels, gazelles, hares, flying eagles, and lizards.

Wadi Driving

Wadi-bashing is to make tourists explore the wadis which mean a ride through the rough beautiful mountains. Water flows through the mountains especially at Hajar Mountains because of the winter rains which creates rivers and water ways along the mountains. This is an adventurous ride for tourists because of the desert safari in a cold weather.


Sand Skiing

For those who love and enjoy skiing in the snowy mountains will love Sand skiing because it's not available anywhere else. Sand Skiing is considered a sport which has speed, and enthusiasm. Tourists especially enjoy sand skiing in the dunes of Dubai. Sand Skiing is only available if you are doing a full-day. For high dunes special skis are available.
