I just got my car back after having my stock 2.93 swapped out for a 3.38. I haven't driven it much yet (just back to my office) but so far I give it a big thumbs up. I get 3500 RPM at 30 mph which means you can just reach 60mph at 7000 RPM. Unformtunately my redline is 6800 (via ESS software).
1st gear goes by in a hurry, but then it always has since I got the SC, headers and exhaust.
Anyway, like some people have said, I definitely feel more acceleration via my butt dyno. I would bet that if I could reach 60mph in 2nd gear, it would be well under 5 sec.
All in all, a great mod for a $550 part.

Is your diff lsd?
Most likely not.
I went from a 2.93 --> 3.46 --> 3.07 -- 3.64 http://forum.e46fanatics.com/images/smilies/woot.gif
3.64 = toooo fast.

I should buy 3.64 gearing and try it out.

I find that a 3.46 with a blown 330i is great for city shoot around. But for cross country driving, it is a real pain... for the engine. And I can't go beyond 130 mph. 5th and out of RPM! THe car still pulls strongly at 120mph but i am out of gears!!! Am I the only one having this problem? I feel that something is wrong......It can't be that a stock 325i diff tops at 130mph right?

3.64 gives you greater mechanical advantage so your car will accelerate faster while it is in gear. The trade off is that you spin through the gears faster and you have to shift more. No, you cannot make it to 60 mph in 2nd for 3.38 and above. Top end would be 136.3 mph for a 5-speed and 160.4 mph for a 6-speed.

Just because your car will mathematically run 199 doesn't mean it will...
