undefinedI'm debating on buying the ESS SC for my 330 cabrio with 22K miles or the technic phase 4 system with the 3.4 rear end. The costs are going to be comparable :blah: , but I know with the SC I'll have around 40+hp, but the reliability of the other may be a good trade-off. Has anyone done the phase 4 system and rearend and can they give me perf figures?
Thanks

As much as I'd like your business on the S4 kit, I'd recommend going SC.

technik, could you give a reason as to why?
i have a step 330, and wonder whether to go SC or N/A with your stage 4 powerkit.. i live a few miles from ESS here in norway, so that's certainly something i need to consider. but how's the reliability since i have an automatic?

Thank you for your advice. Now the decision will be between your S2 SC and ESS. I live in Phoenix, AZ where ambient temp can easily reach 115 degrees F. Do you think a SC would be feasible/reliable to someone who would not be racing the car but using the extra power when needed?
Thank you again

So how has your ESS system been? When did you purchase it?

For the money, you will see more gains with the SC. However, since you are auto, you should run the 5psi pulley (if it's the ASA ESS kit)...this is conservative, but is done to prevent the trans from blowing out if you drive the car hard. That would put you around the same power output as the full Stage 4 power kit, but I still say go SC, since it's much easier to install. Removing the head on these cars requires a very skilled technician with the correct factory tools.

Reliability is a non-issue if everything is installed correctly...that's both for N/A or SC.

Absolutely. Superchargers can be just as reliable as a factory engine. The key is proper installation and maintenance. In AZ's climate, having an intercooled kit is a definite must.

Q1: Thanks again :) Are you familiar with dealer/shop who you would suggest in installing a SC--any that you know that have installed your products? By the way, I do have a 5 spd which I know allows me to have a system with more boost.
Q2: What about the drive line. In my old 69 mustang one area people forgot to upgrade was the driveshaft and u-joints to handle the extra pwr. Any need here? :yikes:

In AZ, we don't have an authorized installer (yet), but any shop with some BMW experience should have no issues installing this kit if they follow our instructions. We also offer support over the phone or email if they have questions.

No need...not at these boost pressures.

You won't have a problem here with the heat....Just do like Technik said and get an intercooler. You'll be set.
