View Full Version : Dual Voice Coil Sub Impedance mismatch?

I purchased a used Rockfor Fosgate P312D4 12" Dual 4 Ohm Subwoofer. When I measure the impedance of one set of terminals it reads 4 Ohms, the other set only reads 3 Ohms. When I wire them in parallel I get around a 1.5 Ohm reading. Now I am only using a crappy little analog Ohm meter so the readings are not that accurate but there is definitely a difference between the two sets of terminals. Is this normal or acceptable?
Thanks

I would consider this abnormal - is the cone at rest during both readings?
it's atypical for a sub to read dead on 4 when just sitting there, but to my knowledge, it's also abnormal for them to read different from eachother.
so, I would think, no it's not normal - but I'd hook it up and give it a go to see what happens.

The sub was at rest but in speaking to Rockford Fosgate tech support they said that depending on where the coils come to rest the impedance can vary and this is normal. I hooked up the sub today and works fine. Thanks
