I need some heavy traffic on this thread, that is why it's in the general forum. I installed my icelink and I check the Ipod to make sure it booted up. It seemed to do just fine. My question is if you don't have a playlist on the Ipod is there a way to check to see if music will play? I am assuming no.
Also, for those of us without a "mode" button on the h/u. (2001 and older). How do I engage the CD changer mode?

Press CD twice to go to cd-changer mode and try playing music before you dock the ipod... that should start playing from your car speakers.

That's what I was thinking.

Ok, I just tried that and no music came out. Damn, so can I narrow the problem down to the cd changer side of the connection? (i.e., the plug that docks inside the big 12 pin connector)?

I have the < > buttons with a "M" between them. I have to press #6 on the head unit to enter the IceLink menu. Then use the < > buttons to move up or down. To select, I have to press "M" to show a "M" on the head unit and then press and hold the > button.

how about you try making playlists on your ipod
I can't see this making too big a difference but at least you'll be able to know that you are playing a particular playlist.
The display on the ipod should also be different. Something along the lines of "now playing: " : then artist name and song.

Finally got it working, now I have to fiddle with getting the text to work, but it's all good for now

Upgrade your firmware from 2.05 to Version 2B1.
The upgrade process isn't that straight forward and IceLink isn't that easy to navigate on my Business head unit.

To select, I have to press "M" to show a "M" on the head unit and then press and hold the > button. The Ice Link menu keeps jumping arround on me. It took many tries to get to the upgrade Ice Link menu but I finally did.
Text now works great and I'm a happy camper.

Playlists are the key to the ice>Link. They are "virtual CDs" to the ice>Link, which is emulating your CD Changer.
Having multiple playlists will make things MUCH easier to get around, but you can search by Album/Artist as well.
