This is the dyno results for my second ESS Supercharger system (the TX2). The first supercharger was a VT1 Vortech, I installed the VT1 in my 01’330i back in 12/02. I replaced the VT1 with the TX2 in the Spring of 2005. For a more thorough discussion of my VT1 experience, take a look at this thread.

http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=207153

Today’s dyno run (9/29/05) had the following weather conditions:

(A cold front just came through so the air is about perfect for some strong numbers)

Temp: 57 F
Dew Point: 45 F
Pressure Altitude: 520 feet
Density Altitude: 335 feet
Barometer: 30.19
Car has 41,900 miles
TX2 has about 1500 miles

*** Hurricane fan blowing on the intercooler
Air/Fuel Ratio (Dynojet Widebandcommander) = 12.9 @ 3000rpm increasing to 13.5 @6500rpm (Seems lean to me but ESS said this was OK)
Fuel Pressure = 52psi @ 3000rpm increasing to 59psi @ 6500rpm
Boost – 2.8 psi @ 3000rpm with a steady climb to 7.6 psi @ 6500rpm

HORSEPOWER: 283.7
TORQUE: 258.1

Assuming a 20% loss for my manual transmission:
Horespower = 339.6
TQ = Not sure if you apply the drivetrain loss, if so TQ= 309.7

*** DISA Valve removed and a plate installed (DISA Valve was a suspected culprit in my VT1 horsepower dilemma, the car runs smooth as silk without the DISA Valve on the TX2 system and I’ve experience no adverse effects)

Lessons learned: An aftercooler makes a big difference, heat soak is a major player in supercharger systems. Having a centrifugal clutch on the TX2 makes the car idle like a factory new car (never had a single hiccup with the TX2 at idle. I can't say that for the VT1, I think the VT1 drug the motor down at idle and it was tough on the system trying to compensate.

I’m extremely pleased that the car is finally making the power ESS claimed. Why my car wasn’t making the claimed power with the VT1, I’ll never know. I feel it might have been the DISA valve causing the knock sensors to roll back ignition, I’ll go the grave wondering about that one. Anyway, the TX2 is a significant improvement in the technical design over the VT1 system. The car is running just about perfect. I’m done modding the car, I think it has a perfect balance of power and handling with the suspension changes I’ve made. I think the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires help a lot too. Now I need driving school to learn how to apply the power. Your mileage may vary…. Regards…

20% loss is more for auto trans...15% for manual.

Looks great! Thats alot of power you're making! 283whp is well above stock m3 territory.
Are you running anything besides the supercharger like headers?

Good post!! Glad that you are happy with your system. Btw, do you have a plot of the AFR as well? I am pretty sure the WinPEP s/w can plot both the AFR and the dyno together.

Now I need driving school to learn how to apply the power.

So, did I inspire you to use the newfound power? :craig:

havent we seen asa kits with headers running 6.5 psi making 300 whp?

Mr. Paddleshift, you were right on in regards to the aftercooler, I think the VT1 was heat soaking the engine. The cool air and aftercooler on the TX2 is the ticket.  Thanks for your expertise.

Nico3K,
I am not currently running headers but I have seriously considered it. With all of the money I spent on this car, I think I'll be happy with how it is running now. Maybe in a couple of years though......... :str8pimpi

Agreed $$$$

Funny, you shy away because of $$$$$. Didn't the new ESS kit cost a few bucks? How much did you get for the vortech unit?

It is more of a mod burnout issue. I've invested more than $55K for this car (see the mods in my sig). The car was $40K, the S/C's were about $10K (after I sold the VT1), you can do the math, plus all of the other stuff. I'm ready for another car. Plus I need to save some $$$ in this crazy economy. And, there is a strike on my horizon at the company I work for. :str8pimpi

Sounds like we're in the same boat. I'm definitely done modding my car after spending $15-20K on mods on a $40K car. I'm also ready for a new one. I'll be keeping my 330 and looking for a used 997S at the beginning of next year if my finances don't take a turn for the worst.

Now you're talkin..... 997S :low: :low: :low: That is the direction I am looking too, I've had it with BMWNA.

From a previous post by Samir - "there are a few other 330s putting down ~ 300WHP in the Texas area." He didn't seem to question it.

Yea... That's not happening on a 330 w/o headers. There's no way.

The air temperature dropped into the high thirty's today and the TX2 is loving it. Some guy in one of those new Cadillac STS V8 sports car's wanted to race. He thought I had a stock 330i. I played with him until about 40 mph and then I nailed it. The supercharger kicked in at 3000 RPM's and I had him by 3 car lengths at the 1/4 mile. Me likey S/C's....... :woot:

Yes you can if you have the file from the dyno run and they took AFR readings.
