This is the dyno results for my second ESS Supercharger system (the TX2). The first supercharger was a VT1 Vortech, I installed the VT1 in my 01’330i back in 12/02. I replaced the VT1 with the TX2 in the Spring of 2005. For a more thorough discussion of my VT1 experience, take a look at this thread.

Today’s dyno run (9/29/05) had the following weather conditions:
(A cold front just came through so the air is about perfect for some strong numbers)
Temp: 57 F
Dew Point: 45 F
Pressure Altitude: 520 feet
Density Altitude: 335 feet
Barometer: 30.19
Car has 41,900 miles
TX2 has about 1500 miles
*** Hurricane fan blowing on the intercooler
Air/Fuel Ratio (Dynojet Widebandcommander) = 12.9 @ 3000rpm increasing to 13.5 @6500rpm (Seems lean to me but ESS said this was OK)
Fuel Pressure = 52psi @ 3000rpm increasing to 59psi @ 6500rpm
Boost – 2.8 psi @ 3000rpm with a steady climb to 7.6 psi @ 6500rpm
HORSEPOWER: 283.7
TORQUE: 258.1
Assuming a 20% loss for my manual transmission:
Horespower = 339.6
TQ = Not sure if you apply the drivetrain loss, if so TQ= 309.7
*** DISA Valve removed and a plate installed (DISA Valve was a suspected culprit in my VT1 horsepower dilemma, the car runs smooth as silk without the DISA Valve on the TX2 system and I’ve experience no adverse effects)
Lessons learned: An aftercooler makes a big difference, heat soak is a major player in supercharger systems. Having a centrifugal clutch on the TX2 makes the car idle like a factory new car (never had a single hiccup with the TX2 at idle. I can't say that for the VT1, I think the VT1 drug the motor down at idle and it was tough on the system trying to compensate.
I’m extremely pleased that the car is finally making the power ESS claimed. Why my car wasn’t making the claimed power with the VT1, I’ll never know. I feel it might have been the DISA valve causing the knock sensors to roll back ignition, I’ll go the grave wondering about that one. Anyway, the TX2 is a significant improvement in the technical design over the VT1 system. The car is running just about perfect. I’m done modding the car, I think it has a perfect balance of power and handling with the suspension changes I’ve made. I think the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires help a lot too. Now I need driving school to learn how to apply the power. Your mileage may vary…. Regards…
