I got the MTech front bumper with Fogs included and am having a shop install it now, they called and told me that there is a plug and pigtail wire conversion kit for the new fog lamps that is needed? Does anyone know if this is indeed required, I thought that you could just swap the old fogs out?

This is for a 2004 325xi that had fog lights before.

Anyone else have to get this 'kit' for fog light conversion?

ahhh i had this issue when i installed the fog lights myself.

yes they use different plugs the bulbs itself is entirely different.
you will need this housing to be able to adapt it to the plug.
your bodyshop will have to splice the fog connection wires to connect up to the new fog wires.

this is the plug that goes inside the plug housing

So the dealership has a kit for this, will it require that I have to take off the front bumper again to do it?

Interesting, as my 2000 323Ci with factory foglights did not need anything different when I hooked up the M-techII front bumper and foglights. It still took a 9006 bulb.

Alex323Ci - you have a coupe your fog lights are different. our facelifted sedans use H7 bulbs.

djtroll - no, you don't have to actually take the bumper off again you can just grab those foglight wires splice them and hook it up. and then stick the foglights in the right place. make sure you have access to the wires after the bumper is on though leave them next to your brake duct if you have one. as for the kit should have been sold with your foglamp but here is the part number anyways.

Actually the bulbs that the facelifted 325i have on the stock bumper are h11.

djtroll, the dealership should have the wire harness to hook up the mtech foglight bulbs. That's where I got mine. Just ask the parts dept. for the 9006 foglight wire harness, and if they don't know what you're talking about, just tell them it's the same one as the M3.

so i got the kit and my car back, now how do i get to the wires to splice them? the shop installed the foglights, but they are not hooked up? is there a way to get to the wires without taking the entire bumper off?

thanks!

If you can't take off from the front. I'm not sure about your model. But on mine with the M-techII front, I could still take off the small front section wheel liner(three hex head bolts infront of the wheel) and pull back the liner and have full access to the foglights. The reason I know this is because I did a HID foglight retrofit. I was afraid I had to take the bumper off, but nope.

look for the wires where foglight is screwed in. they should be dangling around somewhere in that empty space. most likely you will still have the connectors on the existing foglight.

To take out the foglight just pull that tabs off the fog light ring and unscrew the foglights out.

im have no experience with splitting wires..

when i get the connector, is it easy enough to do-it-myself?

you can either take the wired plug PINs out and put into the correct side of the new connector. Or like most do, just splice the the end of one wire to the coresponding wire color (or side). There will be only two wires to splice, the positive and the negative per side. it's pretty novice stuff. either get some wire crimps and solderless connectors, or buy a soldering iron/gun. if that sounds like something you are not comfortable doing, get help from somone else or have an independant garage do it for you.
