I want to get the new iPod but want to be positive it will connect with IceLink. Does anyone know if the dock is different on the new iPod?

Another question for those using IceLink. Do you have to use the IceLink cradle for your iPod to connect? I didn't really want to mount my iPod anywhere in my car. I was hoping to just have a wire connect directly to the iPod so I could place the iPod anywhere I want and to pass it around to any passengers in my car. Is that possible?

Thanks.

It should work since the new iPod features the same dock connector as earlier models. We will have our tester video iPod arriving early next week to verify.

How do you get it to fit the dock of the icelink?

Do not recommend the Active Cradle - the docking cable will be preferable for the video iPod and nano.

Not at this time, but in development.

No idea - we work with the factory system only. I can't believe why it wouldn't.

Tom,

Will the video ipod store completely unseen in the sunglass holder such as the nano with the docking cable?

Thanks!

Yep. Outside dimensions are exactly the same, only the thickness has changed.

Tom,

When you say that ipod video working with icelink (playing videos), is in developement. If I purchase the current icelink now, will I be able to upgrade it to work with videos (when it is available) for free, and would I have to send my unit back in? OR, will I have to purchase an entirely new icelink unit?

While you guys are developing the ipod video playing capabilities.. here's an idea that would be a cool feature to have (in case you guys have not already thought of it)...

A music visualizer, that would come up like a screen saver, while your music's playing.. it would look HOT at night!

Still too early to tell. The 5G iPod's only been out for a couple of weeks.

OK i'm about to get the icelink and an ipod (sick of swappin CD's and radio quality is crap) so which ipod would you recommend? I hear that the nano is really fragile but then again it is small, but the original ipod's still sell for the same price, and i dont want an ipod video cause i have a psp.... what do you think i should get?

It all depends on how large your music collection is. Try not to think of the ipod as a portable music player - it's a Digital Library for your music.

If you haven't jumped on the iPod bandwagon by now - might as well get the 30G iPod video. It's the best bang for the buck right now, even if you don't use the video.

Well i've decided to get the new 30Gb ipod video however i'm still not sure if i want to get the icelink because it seems to not work properly all the time. If this is the case i'll go with the regular one by bmw at the dealership.

If i do get it, i'll be tkaing the ipod in and out (drive to school, take it to class, put it back in car and go home, take it out at home) repeat until i finish all my schooling... is the icelink going to give me problems?

That's not true. Most problems can be contributed to steps skipped in the installation or just simple reassurance after installation. Regardless, I'm always available via phone, email or here on the forums for help.

The ice>Link Plus will work flawlessly in your BMW.

will the icelink work with an aftermarket head unit? I have an Eclipse CD8454 unit.

There are different kits for the Kenwood, Alpine (M-BUS) and Sony - unfortunately nothing for the Eclipse.

I believe Eclipse carries their own iPod adapter.
