I am learnign to shoot and want to get a gun in the next few months. I went skeet shooting over the weekend and loved it, and i have always wanted to be able to handle a firearm. i am even going to be sport shooting for the winter PE credit at my school. i plan on getting a couple of lessons from a local range.
should i get a rifle or shotgun? what types? i know that i cant shoot skeet or trap with a shotgun, but pmy friend is encouraging me ot get a rifle for target shooting

I personally prefer to shoot shotguns. I think it's fun to shoot a moving target and watch it break into a zillion pieces.
I have several rifles, but I don't shoot them that often. When I go shooting, I go to the shotgun range.

Get the rifle. Hell, get both. Where did you go skeet shooting, in Bethesda?

Rocket Launcher would own them all
I had the same debate and I went with a rifle. I enjoy target practice from afar.

Are you going to JUST do sport shooting? Or do you think you'll go hunting at some point? I started out w/ a Ruger .22 just as somethign to learn with. It's a super reliable and accurate rifle for target shooting and it's also fun for squirrel and bird hunting. Then I got a Browning 12ga shotgun for dove/turkey hunting and skeet shooting.
A shotgun can be used for many different types of hunting, whereas a rifle constricts you to more big game hunting. But at the same time, a rifle can be used for a more variety of target shooting, whereas a shotgun is pretty limited to skeet.

Get an AR-15
Werd. I have a Bushmaster AR15 with an M4 "type" upper and I love it to death. But stay away from Wolf ammo, the casings are steel, and the coatings when burnt off in the chamber, cause corrosive residue thats not the best for the life of the gun.

I own about 22 firearms and i would say shooting shotguns is by far the most fun since its more interactive ie: trap shooting. Get a shotgun. If your just a beginer and dont want to spend too much go get your self a benelli. Its a great shotgun at a great price.

Get some shotguns, some buddies, some beer and pull a "point break" robbery heist, a la Ex-Presidents style.
