Guys,

I would just like to provide info on the newly released kit from VF-Engineering that I have jsut purchased. Many people have been inquiring about it's performance and some others don't understand how it can make more power @ 6lbs than all the other kits @ 10lbs. The answer is dedicated team of Research and Development.

Having worked with Vortech USA on many projects as a former employee from Kenwood North America building demo cars I become a strong supporter of there product. Don't get me wrong, not because we were mutual friends but moreso for the performance #'s and reliability of there product and their great tech support. My previous project was an Integra with their kit full kit w/ the intercooler it was simply phenomenal.

Moving forward after leaving Kenwood I sold my three demo cars and decided to get into a newer E46. Love the car but couldn't afford an M3 just yet as we were building a house. So I got the next best thing a 328ci (yeah it wasn't the 330ci) but it had the Performance and Lux. Pkg. I thought it would satitfy my craving...........but as we are all enthusiast, guess what............. it didn't at all on a speed level. The handling was great and braking was top notch but I needed more speed as every car I've ever owned has had some kind of force induction and has been highly modified.

I contacted my friends @ Vortech and they recommended me to company, VF Engineering, which uses the Vortech Blower with their own CPU upgrade (GIAC Tuned) Fuel Rail, Injectors, Cold Air Intake and many other goodies including (their infamous research team0. (Acutally everything you need to make you 328 faster than an M3) I have nothing but great things to say about these guys. Having dealt with Porsche and VW, VF-Engineering knows German cars thru and thru and were extremely professional and thorough in the design. I installed the 1st Production Stage 1 Kit in North America on my car and it will be featured in HCI this spring. Stage 2 is coming soon as will also be feature as a follow up story in HCI later on in 2006 (July-Aug).

The Stage 1 Kit claims a conservative increase to 309hp with 265lbs/tq. Wow what a difference! Holy S#$T. My car has been transformed into a monster now. The car's net Gain 116hp and 59lbs/tq. I had my car dyno'ed and to the wheels I was getting 281whp and 243lbs/tq which is slightly higher but due to elavation could make a slight difference. I have been running it for 3months flawlessly. Now driving it in -20 degree celcius weather without a problem. Well, traction until i got new Toyo Garrett's and now it's great. The install was so easy and my friend and I had it in 7 hours start to finish with a 25 min break for lunch included. The instructions are easy to follow and with some intermediate install knowledge shouldn't be a problem for most weekend mechanics.

VF-Engineering sold the kit to me for $5000.00 and it was worth every penny. The stage on kit makes more power than most of the other kits that are running aftercooler and 3-4 lbs of boost more. This just goes to show how well the tuning is done between the research done at VF and the programming at GIAC.

Stage 2 is being released next spring but I should get a one soon and they are guessing at some pretty scary numbers roughly another 40-50hp and another 30-40lbs/tq. They add a Intercooler, smaller pulley, bigger injectors and Stage 2 programming. Rough lbs of boost will be 9-10lbs. and best yet it will be 100% reliable and VF-Engineering backs their product with one of the best warranties. Can't wait. If it was up to me, I would have put off building the new house and bought an M3 and put the same kit on it as well. Oh well next summer this might become a reality. They also build kits for almost every type of BMW motors and some M badged cars.

I've included some pictures for you guy to take a look at.

Thanks to VF-Engineering.

Very cool write up man! I am very impressed with Jlevi's kit!

do you have a dyno that show AFR's? Also, 280whp seems to be in line with some other kits running 6lbs of boost. I'm getting 300+whp with asa's kit at 6.5psi. Can't wait to upgrade to 10psi! Still a nice write up though.

Just curious..is that dyno plot your dyno? Cos it looks similar to what VF has on the website.

And yeah...AFR plot will be great.

Yeah it is VF dyno plot. I lost mine before getting my scanner. Will have the a new one as soon as stage 2 comes. Sorry I quoted some false info. The VF kit does make more power @ 6psi than some of the other kits at 7.5 to 8.5. Don't get me wrong I've driven plenty of 330 and 328 with the AA and ASA kits on them and they are great. All really good kits but the VF kit is more powerful and smoother than the others but marginally. Can't wait for stage 2 myself.

Yea..... I dunno about that...... I really strongly suggest you dyno your actual car to see the actual results.

And I do not hesitate to say that any asa kit boosting more than 6.5 psi is making more than any vf kit non M3 of course:bow:

Looks nice. VF seems to be making a quality kit with solid power.

Now we just need to see a few dynos from people with the setup installed.

I dunno if i would call that an optimized fuel curve for an sc BMW:dunno: Looks intentionally rich to compensate for detonation fears

Well, the Vortech blowers are good compressors, but they seem to be more efficient boosting at higher PSI - maybe around the 15PSI range. That could be the reason that the Vortech compressor does not spoil up as quickly as the ASA compressor. Regardless, both compressors are very good, but it is the kit that the compressors are associated with that determines its power output, reliability, and etc. boostedbimmer could have driven the ASA-equiped cars without the Technik software. The Technik software adds a world of difference to the car on regards to the power output of the car. It is more smoother and faster than the ASAtronic, which was a POS.

Regarding the VF dyno graph and few things that are fishy to me. The torque numbers are quite low. If I remember correctly, I made about 40 ft/lbs. more torque than that when I had my steptronic. Another thing to point out, this dyno graph was from a steptronic 330. So that could be the reason that the torque numbers are a little low. Then the next thing is that the HP graph continues to go after the 6500 RPM line all the way up to 6800ish. However, the torque graph is cut off at 6500 RPM. Again, that could be for the safety of the steptronic, but it is something to ponder about. Why raise the redline if the torque curve won't go past the 6500 RPM mark and follow the HP curve. On regards to the power feel of the car, it is the area under the curve that determines the power of the car. I think boostedbimmer needs to have a dyno done WITH AFR to post.

^^ I agree, my car without software drives poorly (due to BMW issue not ASA or Technik) and is down 40rwhp compared to yours. When Technik finishes the software for MS45 I will truly be in heaven...

Got to love the monkeying around that BMW does to the MS45 software. :)

The car was dyno'ed. I kicking myself for not keeping it with all my car stuff. I will have it done when my stage 2 kit arrives (2 months). My numbers as stated before were higher than the stock numbers on the VF dyno that I posted. And that is the a Dyno on a 328 not a 330. Look at VF's website. Regardless it is very conservative.
