Im new to the forums but have researched this and still uncertain. I've spec'd a 2006 M3 for Jan production w/ SMG. Should I reconsider, and opt instead for the 6MT if I have intentions of going w/ FI after my warranty is up.
I believe DA MOTORSPORT E46 M3 Turbo Project Car is an SMG. Do I need to be concerned aboput having an SMG with an FI setup?

there have been several members with SMG's and FI. Jermey's cars, a phoenix yellow m3, is the fastest M3 next to the "loaded CSL" and his car is a SMG. you should be fine.

So theres no need to worry about the SMG II slipping with SC/Turbo like the reports from Russ on his SSG/SMG slippage? Can I get that in writing? =) j/k No really...much appreciated. I'm just trying to do the right thing.

it is my understanding that the only difference between the SMG II and the standard 6 speed is the 18lb hydraulic 'foot' and the smg ecu that controls the standard transmission. In another words, the SMG should be able to withstand the same ammount of power reliably as the standard 6speed; which i believe is 500NM ~ 368RWHP as listed on the GETRAG website, the company that builds the M3 transmission. I'm sure with a flywheel and clutch upgrade, u should be okay to run about 400rwhp without much problems.
