2000 323ci manual w62k miles. You guys think it's worth it to put on a supercharger? Or should I sell the car and get a 330 and call it a day. It'll cost me $6000 for a kit w/ an intercooler. I love my car and don't want to see it go (since i've only had it now about 7months), but it is really slow. with the kit it says i'll put down about 256 whp. Not bad thats about 290ish at engine i can live with that for now. What you guys think?:dunno:

Thats high miles bud. You going to have to replace other parts with the S/C ... I recommend getting the 330 AND AND AND the supercharger ;)

I agree that you should get the 330, but I don't agree that those are really high miles. Granted you might have to replace the clutch and some other minor parts in the drivetrain, but the engine should be good for way over 100,000...they are built like rocks.

:werd: you can't say you have high miles until you get over 150K. Seriously, maybe on some 1980's buick 60K is high miles, but don't you think your modern bmw technology is a bit better?

62k miles is not a lot for a car, unless you race the **** out of it.

Yup, I supercharged (7 psi) my honda at 80K and its now at 160K with no major problems associated with going FI. Now if my honda can handle the boost, so too should the BMWs! 62K BTW is NOT high mileage for boost.

Now I dont know much about FI but will S/c a car at 102k prove to have some problems. Esp when its an automatic not even a steptronic? What problems might I encounter. Thanks for ed. me.

Upgrade to a 330. Once you start boosting you will be wanting more and there is no upgrade path for the 323 - especially with a manual. Plan on owning the 330 for a year or so and then boost that. Make sure you buy a manual, preferably with a 6 speed. Also, make sure you budget about 20% over what you think you will be spending when you go with boost.

DO it, i just got mine installed (2000 323i steptronic, 63k miles got the AA kit), so far so good - the only issues i had were a diafram needed replacement, o2 sensor, valve cover gasket..

Car is muchh faster now and im loving every second of it!
what kit are you thinking of doing?

Don't listen to anybody here they have no experience with high miles and a FI BMW engine. I installed my SC at 108,000 a year ago. I just broke 121,000 and no problems so far. Only problem I have had is 2 bad spark plug coils. Don't waste your money on buying a new 330 they are still slow...... hehehe hell mine is too :lmao:

Buy a used 330 with plans to S/C it. It is worth the wait. The improvement from a 323/325 will keep you happy until you save the 8k for a S/C.

i also have this problem, i have a 330i sedan, all the packages of course, however, its a 2001 and has 56K miles on it now. i don't know if i want to spend money on it at like 80K or maybe even 100,000K, or if i should buy another car. damn, i hate being young now

They are built very solid, that is true. The inline 6 engine has been known to last for a solid 300,000 miles without any major engine work. However, if you start throwing more force into the engine, the internal components obviously are going to endure stress they were not designed to endure under stock conditions. After all, this is a mechanical device and like any machine it is prone to failure. Introducing more stress inducing elements into the equation does potentially make for more failure.
