View Full Version : MAF sensor problem

I keep getting the MAF sensor out of range error.
To my understanding this is when the intake takes in more air than the top range of the amount the MAF sensor can sense.
This error results in the car going into 'safe mode' revs limited to about 3k and speed limited to about 40mph.
It gets REALLY annoying and I've been having the error alot lately.
I even disconnected the MAF so I wouldn't get the error causing my car to go into safe mode.
Is there an easy way to fix this problem? Cause disconnecting my MAF sensor doesn't sound very safe for the long-run.

Check and reinstall your intake system.

did that bunch of times, completely dismantled it and reinstalled it after completely cleaning it.

did u recently clean your k&n filter? if u put too much oil, it can get on the maf and damage it

i'mma cut to the chase....there is absolutely nothing wrong with the intake, cone, etc. Just want to know is there a way to increase the max range of the maf sensor, either by buying a new one or rigging it somehow.

Sounds like you need an ASAtronic or if you can find a pot from a electrical hardware store. Are you back in So Cal?

I just got a p0101 and p0104 after driving through some VERY HARD rain, i've never seen it rain so hard before (I love Seattle :) ), and I hit some water pretty hard on the highway.
Hopefully a little mist triggered the SES light and everything is ok. I even have a water sock too :(

triggers during normal driving.
still in Malaysia, what do you mean by pot?

Hey Casanova,
I don't think your problem is you MAF. By having the SC, you will indeed be taking in alot more air. That's why AA sends you that black box. It is suppose to modify the voltage signals coming from your MAF so that it remains within the limit that your DME can recognize.
Lets say that the DME accepts a max voltage of 5 and your stock (Naturally Aspirated) MAF sends a max voltage of 5. With the SC you will suck in something like 7 volts worth of air. That black box is suppose to modify that 7 volt signal towards the DME so that it never exceeds 5 volts. Check voltage before and after the black box while building boost. It should NOT be the same, if it is then you might have to call AA for a new one.

I don't remember getting a black box but I'll double check.

You should have received a little black box that you install between the MAF and the DME. Here is a pic of it.
