View Full Version : Fuel consumption computer acurate with technik software?

After technik developed their software and injectors kit (that in my mind properly complets the ASA kit) I have one question left - is the onboard computer recalibrated with the technik software to show correct fuel consumption numbers and estimated miles left on the remaining gas?

I'm one of those trolls that dreams about supercharging but still holds back because he's thinking of what the drawbacks might be. After trying 2 intakes, one software tuning, one set of plasma ignition coils, headers + aftermarket cats and completly returning the car to stock because of problems I decided that the best mod, if I ever feel like modding ever again, is to sell the car and buy another car that performs like I want it from the get go and keep it stock.
I have not had an aftermarket part without some kind of issue that came with it - including the bloody euro rear clears!!!!(both bulb carriers went bad and to replace it was ... $****#...errr ...fun from parts availability to fitment issues of US carrier in the euro lens!!!)

Filip,

The OBC fuel gauges count fuel injector pulses vs distance traveled vs time and has no idea that the injector size has been changed from stock with a Supercharger kit. It will be off by the percentage that you enlarge the injectors. It can be reprogrammed, but must be done in the instrument cluster which, to my knowledge, no tuners do.

Good to know. I have been wondering this myself.

It is way off, so is your MPG guage. I love it when my car says that I am getting 45 MPG while doing 80 on the freeway. :lmao:

Hey Bermstem what dyno numbers are you putting down? I don't see many 328's that are blown.

I don't know yet. My car is still a work in progress (http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=320033). My S/C only has 30 miles on it right now and the bodyshop is going to start on fixing my subframe later this week. Once the subframe is fixed and my suspension is upgraded (Ground Control Coilovers - I think), I'll get the S/C broken in and dynoed.

Don't expect anything soon, though, the bodyshop is estimating 4 weeks to fix the subframe so I figure I won't be able to get the S/C broken in and get to a dyno until the end of February. For reference, another member put out 300RWHP with a similar setup (328i with 8psi Technik S/C, cams and headers). Even without a dyno, I'll say the car is a beast and a bit scary to drive (but isn't that the goal  ?). It definitely needs an upgraded suspension. Anyone who heads up to the Ann Arbor area feel free to stop by for a drive (if I'm not in the Hospital that is :yikes: ).

what about the consumption differnce with and without s/c?

This is an old thread, but I have a fix for the fuel consumption problem on the OBC. Can't help you with fuel consumption of the engine!

hmm interesting, have you installed this? I have no idea how this would hook up or how well it works. wonder how it would know how much larger the new injectors are and what the original specs were?

It doesn't know what size injectors you have. It doesn't know the original spec. It doesn't matter...

The unit has an adjustment that you tune to make your indicated mileage match your actual mileage. It proportionally stretches the fuel signal from the ECU to your cluster to "fool" the OBC into thinking it's getting the signal for stock injectors.

this seems more trouble than its worth having to "tune it"

Have you used this product? I didn't notice anything on the website that explained how you go about tuning it. I'd love to have my data accurate again.
