hi guys..i drive a 328i and plan to get myself Technik's SC kit.but i've got a few worries/questions that maybe Technik or anyone else here can answer.
i notice that Technik's kit makes 325hp for the 328i whereas a comparable model specific kit from Infinitas makes only 290ps.how come the difference?? is it because of the larger intercooler and Technik's own software? is there a specific kit for steptronic??
also,is 325hp safe for steptronic? i live in Malaysia and the tropical weather here in pretty harsh on cars.if so,what can i do to prolong the gearbox's life?
my car is RHD.are there things/items in your kit that i can't use and have to source locally(malaysia)due to the RHD configuration??
sorry for so many questions but its a big investment for me so i'd just like to be sure..hope u guys could help:)

325 hp is about tops of what is suggested for an automatic. for a 328, Technik uses 6.5 psi, and if i'm correct, Technik does not suggest that for automatics, they suggest 5 or 5.5 psi (don't remember exactly), which produces less than 325 hp.

i've only seen ESS producing 325 hp for an automatic, and that is for a auto 330.

and since you say your weather is hot, an intercooler is a must (which it pretty much is anyway). i think Technik's kit for autos produce ~295-300 hp. and that is what i'd go with.

thanks bro..i hope they have a kit with 5.5 pulley.i just want a kit that is made for my car's exact spec and drive it like i normally do which is pedal to the metal.i don't want to install a kit and end up having to drive too carefully and just kinda hope the gearbox holds up.the whole thing is compounded somemore by hot and humid weather..as opposed to Norway where u are,the mid day temp here is always 34C(ambient)all year round.the road temp will be somewhere in the region of 45C.not very pleasant at all..
one consolation is that my bimmer is not my daily driver as i've got a small 1.3 Perodua(Malaysian made car which is actually a Toyota Passo).
hope Technik can answer some of my questions..:)

The kit will fit, RHD is not a problem. The 290PS kit you saw was probably the SK+ kit. The 6.5psi Stage 1 kit is OK for 328 autos.

ok,that is a relief to hear although i'm still not convinced..i'm getting the kit anyways and hope the gearbox doesn't break.

Technik..do u have any idea if the steptronic gearbox on LHD and RHD models are the same? do they share the same power and torque ratings??
i drive my car fast and always press on so i hope it'll hold up.

Per the ETK, the transmissions are different...

US = A5S 360R
MYS = A5S 325Z

If you're concerned, then you can opt for the 5.5psi pulley.

ok thanx..now i know.so the A5S 325Z has a lower power/torque rating than the A5S 360R i presume??
do you have a link to the 5.5psi kit? does it run the same Technik I/C and ecu upgrade? i don't mind having a little less power as long as i have full access to the power and also have carefree access to that power.
i'll be ordering through a friend of mine who is also a malaysian and also a forummer here cuz he knows his way around all the importing hassles which includes customs/tax hurdles.so i need to tell him specifics..
thanx for the insights.:thumbup:

if i do break my gearbox,would it be possible for me to get a US spec GM box(A5S360R)and install it to my car(RHD)??
notice that US cars(A5S360R)have a higher max torque rating than RHD cars(A5S325Z)...what a bummer!!!! 360Nm against 325Nm.

You should be fine at 6.5psi.

Your existing Gearbox should be fine till about 380 nm. My car is a 330 with SK1 + Header and full exhaust(auto) the car was pushing above 400nm which caused my original tranny to fail.

But since yours is a 328 and stock exhaust it should be ok.

I done a lot of research on the issue of swapping the gear box with the (A5S360R) but note there is no gaurantee that it will work, i recall the control units on both the gear boxes are different, hence it might not be as easy task.

hi kashif..thanx for the info.the reason for all these questions is that i don't want to have to hold back everytime i want to let her rip in fear of damaging the tranny.i'd like to have carefree access to the power so that i can enjoy driving her..without that,what's the point in the whole exercise rite??

so did u rebuilt ur old tranny or did u get a new one?? what did u do to enable it to handle more than 400Nms? will changing the torque converter help?

btw got a few friends working with Emirates and Ettihad..going crazy over cars there!!!! cars are damn expensive here in Malaysia so we suffer here as far as cars are concerned.
