Okay, I need help in deciding which UUC clutch/flywheel kit to go with. Anyone that can shed some info to help me make my decision please chime in :D . I'll be SCing my car sometime down the road, so I'm looking for a kit that can handle the power, but also be good enough for frequent daily driving in the city. So between these 3...
- OEM BMW M5 clutch kit
- Performance Organic
- UltraSmooth Cerametallic
...Which one should I go with and why? I've searched and searched, but am still undecided on the whole thing. I'm leaning towards the oem M5 clutch and stage 2 flywheel since UUC claims that SCed/turbo e36 m3's have been running that setup with excess power of 450 hp and no problems, it's price is also a plus. I'm basically looking for whatever kit will give me the biggest performance increase that will still be fine for daily city driving. I can deal with the chatter as long as it's not too loud :)

I have the Performance Organic Clutch and love it. It handles the power output of my car and still is able to be city driven. Either one you choose, M5 or Performance Organic, you can't go wrong. As for the chatter, it slowly goes away as the miles build up on the car. to UUC for designing this awesome flywheel and clutch setup.

What's up Brian!
Did you have cdv removed, and who performed your installation? Also, how is it holding up over all?
Bimmmerchop, go for the performance organic. I talked to Rob and decided that this is the clutch for me. It's perfectly fine for daily driving, and strong enough if you decide to sc. I'll post a review soon.

I went with the stage II kit (I think, it's the one with the M5 clutch with the 8.5 lb flywheel).
It took me a little while to warm up to it, definitely required a break in period. Initially the clutch was very grabby and was absolute HELL to drive in LA rush hour traffic on the way home from Technik. Now after about 2.5K miles it's starting to feel a lot better and I'm starting to enjoy it now. It's probably not as bad with the 328's as with the 330's but the stock clutch felt very vague and mushy, all of that is removed with the UUC kit.
As far as flywheel chatter, I only get it when I'm in neutral with the AC on. Even then it's not like a helicopter is landing next to me or anything. I probably wouldn't even notice it that much if I wasn't trying to hear it. I think Rob from UUC recommends switching to Redline fluids to minimize the noise even further, but it's not bothersome at all IMO.

I'm dabating the same thing for my clutch replacement. I would say either performance organic or ultrasmooth ceramic/metallic. The ultrasmooth is probably overkill even for a S/C non-M, but I have only read great things about the ultrasmooth clutch's streetability.

Never had the CDV. :D Edge Motorwerks did the installation. Valley Motorwerks would have been my choice if they were open at that time. The clutch and flywheel is holding up perfectly. It is perfect for street driving. I think the performance organic is about the same as the M5 clutch. However, for the six speed application, there is no M5 clutch available. As for the grabby-ness of the UUC clutches, you should try SPEC! That thing grabs like no tomorrow. Ask 668Ci. He tried the clutch. The feel of the UUC clutch is perfect to me. It is the real feel the BMW clutch should have from the beginning - not that soft mushy clutch that comes from the factory.

I think the Performance Organic is right for you. It is rated up to ~385 torque. The Ultrasmooth Ceramic/Metallic is rated up to 500+ torque. IMO, just a bit of overkill. :P

I had the 6puck, and took it out cuz it was terrible. I have the performance organic right now and i love it. Works perfect holds the power, thats what i recomend. Goodluck:thumbup:

Thanks guys, looks like it's now between the M5 or performance organic. I'll probably give Rob a call or drop him an email to help make my decision.
Ronald, that picture gives me nightmares :(
i seriously just wouldn't get the lightweight flywheel..

i seriously just wouldn't get the lightweight flywheel..
Care to share why? :D
I have the Gen1 UUC 12Ib in my 328i.. cheaped out and just used a oem 330 clutch..which when I SC'd..didn't last long.. if I did it again knowing I was going to SC..I would have done the M5 clutch route, OEM replacement and can handle the extra HP...
It will take you a day to find the new release point of the LWF, ie extra gas to get you mobile from a stop.. but definately much better acceleration.. I would go with the UUC 8Ib LWF\M5 package IMO for a daily driver..IMO

Labor cost...
Once the clutch is off its not like its much harder to replace the flywheel. Also the M5 clutch wont work with the stock flywheel.

ZHP would explain the Mtech kit since the ZHP comes with it. It must have been your car that I saw when I was at Technik earlier this month. Black rims? I was wondering if the cars owner was a member of the forum. :)

My shop quoted me ~$500.00-600.00 for clutch and flywheel.

Thank for the update. Has the change been what you expected? I want to get rid of the mushy feeling . My Jeep with manual transmission has better pedal feel and heel / toe operation. My experience with lightweight flywheels has not been very good on street driven cars. I had a 70 302 Boss Mustang I put a aluminum flywheel on. The car performed great at Nelson Ledges and Watkins Glen, but on the street forget it. I have always driven manuals and I could not get the car to quit stumbling off the line unless I raised the revs up high. Gear rattle was not an issue because everything else in the car rattled. Kind of like what they call noise cancellation now a days.

:spit: I used to have a mustang convertable. It rattle like nothing else, but it was fun.

Yup, I posted a review on it as soon as it was installed, but now a days, not too many people who visit the general forum care much for anything performance related, i should have posted one here in the FI forum as well...

I have the UUC ceremic clutch and like it very much. I went with that over the Organic one to make sure that the clutch held every bit of hp and tq available. Slippage = no no.

Well, you expected to make more power than you had at that time. You are adding more power now. The Cerametallic or the Ceramic is the right clutch material for you. For those that just upgraded with a supercharger and want to replace their aged clutch, the performance organic is the right choice for them because it is close to OEM feel but ~$200 less than the Cerametallic or Ceramic. I love my Cerametallic. Review of that comes at the end of this week after my hell of midterms. :(
