View Full Version : Will several guages be helpful?

I've come to wonder, if several guages will be helpful for supercharger kit operation. I thought it's kind of must-have for Nitrous kit, but have no idea if it's also very practical for supercharger kit. (Not a turbo) Actually, as I can't adjust boost pressure nor will make a set-up to let me adjust boost pressure manually, I've come to wonder of its usage, indeed.

What's the best horsepower with 325xi automatics transmission? Are there anyone tried more than 325HP with 325i or 325xi automatic trasmission?

What would be the difference in transmission between over 350HP automatic cars and BMW 3series automatic? Of course, those over 350HP were made to work well with their tranny, but I really come to wonder why not for BMW 3series automatic?

How does slippage occur in automatic transmission, when it comes to handle with much more power than usual? What the heck those supercar automatics?

My buttom line is how to make auto tranny to support much more power than the stock as automatic supercars? :dunno:

yeah..i have the same predicament with my slushbox.i wonder why bmw makes such weedy slushboxes for the 3er.it pisses me off to know any increase in engine power by whatever means will be limited to gearbox limitations.
i was told that by changing the torque converter(from a 330i in my case)wud solve the problem but i'm not convinced.
maybe i shud just junk the steptronic and do a manual swap.what do u think bro?

the weak points of our 325 auto boxes..

for 325hp, its gonna be a stage 2 for the 325, Super with your 328, its already 320hp! Lucky C*&T.

Anyways, the boost gauge will only be for your own fun, just to be able to see that needle sweep around. Nothing functional except help you identify a boost leak? Same as AFR meter, unless you have a wide band sensor mounted.

Water Temp, well the car already has one in the dash, but i guess an aftermarket item will show the temp in increments of degrees C/F.

Other gauges.....i guess too are for show. but i am no expert.

Anyone?

The 330 and 325 are different. not only in the engine bay, Brakes and torque converter too. The 325 and 328 are more similar than the 328 to 330.

The 330's equipment are designed to handle more power than what the stock motor can produce. Same as the 325 and 328. So if say BMW provided a 25% window of safety on the parts, the 330's TQ can handle another 25% more power. So logically, the 330 TQ can better handle the power of s SCed 325/328.

i thought all these gauges are there to monitor the health of ur SC??

Oil pressure, oil temp, and voltage. Anything else is just for show.

Voltage? For igniction spark?

How about exhaust temp? Won't that be good to monitor that for the AFR too?

Oh~~ swapping..It's possible, but very expensive. The part costs about $2500 (same model same year), but even though it could fit easily physically, there might be additional issue regarding ECU and others. However, I don't know in detail.

Can anybody tell what would be the additional problem if I swapped tranny?
Will it cost additional cost? When I just buy the car, I'd heard I could change to a manual later, but it will cost pretty much. Yup~$2500 is pretty much, but more than that price I am doubt if it's worthy. $2500 + installation should be ok, and very likely to swap later. Otherwise, I would buy MZ4 for my second car.

Wow, manual without clutch, I mean SMG tranny. What a convenience!

the SMG version that we have in Malaysia, IMHO was a piece of **** to drive. I had one for a test drive, and i was really happy to give it back to the dealer. It jerked, shoved, rocked like a badly driven manual car. Maybe with time i could get the hand of driving it but for my brief drive, its didn't gel with me.

But the SMG II, thats more refined, but fitting that to a 325 block......

Most folks go with Boost, oil temp or pressure, and EGT. Lot's of ignorance in this thread, I suggest doing a search to find more answers.

Somewhat makes sense, and it could explain the price difference.

Then, which different components does 330 have for its auto tranny.
Are there anyone who can compare 325 and 330 auto tranny? Is it matter of material or structure?

What about modifying 325 auto tranny by comparing with 330 auto tranny?

My guess is "torque converter" and automatic chip only. Maybe, ECU also!!

well,u gotta chk the code for your particular car.the codes will tell u pretty much what u need to know about ur box.

I am running boost, oil pressure, egt and a wideband AFR.

I would probably sugg oil temp vs boost but the boost gauge is kinda kewl.
