I've got a 2002 330Ci and just before Xmas the passenger side door felt lining started to come off. (seems to be only for decorative purposes and not for sealing from the outside) Only had the car 3 months 2nd Hand from a BMW dealer. I rang up and they fixed it under warranty. Now the drivers side is falling off, I ring up and they say no we can't fix it under warranty as it comes under paint/interior lining. They did the first one out of goodwill. I asked how much it was for the replacement of it $540. So I told them no thanks. What a crock of shite. Very disappointed.

Anyone had similar experiences? Seems strange for both of them to come off in the space of 3 months.

Also when looking at it, it doesn't seem to have any decent way of fitting it in (grooves, lips), it just looks purely glued on. Any suggestions of a decent glue to fix it up with? Don't want to put something that eats the rubber or continually falls off.

yeah it fell off my coupe on the drivers side. Just glue it back on there. no biggie

I have seen a few other e46s coupes that the window lining stuff has fell off too - seems to be a problem.

Any particular type of glue? Hell if the dealer had offered that, I would have been all for it.

For the M3's it's a known problem, from around 2001 BMW were using a glue between the felt and rubber that over time would allow the felt to peel away from the rubber. The glue was eventually fixed in 2004 I think, and all trim problems are being rectified under warranty, even if out of warranty as it was made known to the owners.

Hi how are you,
Funny i should just read your message. I have a 2002 325ci. The exact same thing has just happened to my passenger side door. I came out one morning and the lining was just hanging down. I tried to glue mine with some ruuber glue and that didnt work. Then i tried super glue......again that was useless. So i just went to a motor trimmer near my work and done they glued it back. Charged me $40 but sounds better than $500. I didnt even ring BMW as i knew they would be out of control.

I ripped mine off in the end, it happened to both doors....the boys at BMW quoted $1000 per door to fix it. 6 months after taking it off and I haven't had a problem.

I got some Selley's Kwik Grip from Bunnings.

Smear it on both surfaces, let it dry for 20mins and then press the two together, bonds on contact. Seems to be holding so far. This is the glue they use to glue laminex to Craftwood for kitchen benchtops so it's pretty strong. But a stinking hot day will be the test I suppose.

I had the same problem with the lining around the top of the window on my coupe. I did some research on this forum and found the best stuff to use is 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive. It is made for this sort of thing and resists heat and vibration. Ring 3M on 13 6136 wherever you live and they will tell you the nearest place to buy it. In Melbourne, the most central place was New Oakford in Oakleigh. Ph: 03 9564 3788. For $10 they took my order over the phone and delivered the stuff to me in Abbotsford! Fantastic service. Be careful when you use it. The fumes are pretty strong. I've never read a more comprehensive warning label before.

Did you use the 3M™ Black Super Weatherstrip Adhesive?

It is a common problem , if left loose the lining will wear away and looks really bad , and starts to wear away at the leather on your door . Mine has a huge tear in it now so i will replace it but the drivers door is just coming loose so i will glue that back up.

Yes I used it. It works really well if you make sure it is tacky before you join the 2 surfaces. Also use masking tape to hold them together for 24 hours.
