All,

I just had Edge Motorsports (www.edgemotorsports.com) install the VF engineering SC kit on my 2001 BMW 330i steptronic transmission vehicle. I have pics of everything, they did one heck of a job, I really like the work. If any of you live in the bay area, i would HIGHLY recommend you go see Erik. He took care of me, his shop is really big and he has a dyno with an AFR wideband there. I have pics so leave your email address if you can host them.

I install was clean. I am a certified ASE mechanic, however, I did not feel comfortable installing the blower myself, so I had Edge do it. I am really happy with their work.

Now ...As far as the power. I haven't taken it past 4000 RPM because I am letting the ECU adjust to the new airflow of the blower. But, up to 4000 it surely flies. The torque improvement is far greater than what I wouldve expected, it threw me back in my seat at 4k ...which only about 2 lbs of boost.

Congrats on the Blower! i was at one point in the market for the VF S/C kit then opted for the AA, then ultimately decided to wait til my warranty expires b4 i do anything...

Good luck with S/C!!! post them pics!

curious as to why you didnt feel comfortable installing the kit, seeing as how youre a mechanic ?

what was the main reason you chose VF blower instead of an AA, ESS, or Technik?? Was it the price? Name-Brand? Longevity? Power in forms of stg2?

correct to my last posting. the correct name of the shop that installed it is:

www.edgemotorworks.com

sorry.

Why didn't I install it? Well the install isn't easy. I'll leave it at that. I wouldn't recommend installing it yourself, I'd leave it to a professional shop to do the install.

Congratulations! I'm waiting for the end of summer when both Technik and VF will have their ZHP offerings available. :envy:

what part are you refering to?

ive read over detailed installation instructions and it all seems pretty straightforward, tapping the oil pan is the only thing that sounds like a b1tch.

is there a specific step of the install you dont feel up to doing?

Unless Edge moved to a new shop, their shop is by no means big. I have had a bad experience with Edge after my tech in SF recently did my clutch swap.

:werd: crispvx, Alan L., and BlumberB18 did their own Technik superchager install and it is a bit more complex then the VF charger.

Damn, 2psi and it does that! Imagine peak rpm and full boost, be carefull you dont fly out of the car! Seriously, with 2 psi your making like 20 more TQ MAX.

 Don't be too harsh. It is a big step for us 330s to go from stock to boosted.

But VFBlown330i if you want to feel more torque, get rid of that slush box. The car is a whole other animal in manual.

Not saying anything about 330's. But the SC kits in general, even my car on 2psi isnt crazy to boast about. Its a bigger step for us. :shhh:

Guys, I just took it to 6000 RPMs and it really made me fall back in my seat. I had my brother (who is a mechanic) drive it and he was very impressed with the results. He has a 2002 BMW M3 SMG and even he said the power was comparable. I am going to take it to Sears point later and see what it does in the 1/4.

I would like to thank Jeff       at VF Engineering for all his help. I would recommend, if you guys want a kit to go to him for your needs. He's a real down to Earth guy and he just rocks all around.

The kit is well priced, at only $5000, it comes with nice big injectors and the piping and everything you need to get it going. It is the best money you'll ever spend on your 330i. This is the only kit that I know of, for the BMWs that will be CARB legal. It uses a Vortech VERY quiet head unit. The software is done by GIAC (i think) whoever did the software did a good job as there are no driveability problems at all.

My cousin, who has a stock 330i, we swapped cars so I could feel the difference from stock to supercharged it was like driving a new car. I'd recommend, instead of springing the thousands for bolt ons, get the s/c and have guranteed power. You'll love it.

Also, I have an steptronic because i dont like driving stick in the bay area SF hills. Thanks though.

I second that. I've had the usual CAI, ECU software, exhaust, larger throttle body, etc. IMO it's just not worth it. It costs about 1/2 of a supercharger, and you get 1/10th the performance increase. Either enjoy your car as is (it's a great car), or save your money and get a supercharger.

Suspension mods are different -- if done right they're very reasonable cost-wise, and can make a big difference.

I'm in San Francisco too. My car is a daily driver to and from work and just around the city. Since Technik just finished their MS45 software, all their E46 non-M3 kits will be CARB legal very soon.

Wait until what you see they did to my flywheel hub during my flywheel and clutch installation. :lmao:

It still says they are at Golden Gate Drive. Maybe they took over turbo hoses next door? :dunno:

Maybe they moved to the right of TurboHoses. :dunno: They were on the left of TurboHoses before. Fill the board in when you visit.

Yep, they moved down a couple of doors to a bigger shop. Visited them on Friday to change out my bushings.
